I was accepted to West Point, but denied from USNA...is there a good chance for me to be accepted to USAFA? My app has practically been in limbo since September last year and the wait is a killer. Thanks in advance.

Absolutely NO way to know!

I've had candidates receive appointments to USNA, USMA, USCGA, USMMA, and be rejected by USAFA. I've also had candidates accepted by USAFA and rejected by the others.

It's all based upon what the SA wants and how your package is "scored" by admissions. "The needs of USAFA" will take priority over everything.

If your son was accepted to WP, he is likely competitive with the others. But the competition within the moc slot is likely going to dictate what happens with the other schools. My son got USAFA and USMA appointments very early a couple years ago, then , after thinking USNA gave up on him, he got a phone call and offer of appointment there too, but it was only days before we were heading to R-DAY at WP, and USMA was his first choice anyway so he passed.

Staying in touch with the admissions officers is important, and hopefully they can provide some insight.

Quit trying to read the tea leaves! With apologies to "The Matrix", there are no tea leaves.

Just a thought - you have an appointment, you may or may not get another. Focus on the bird in hand and prepare for your future. You are in a better position than many of your classmates that are still waiting to hear about getting in at all. If you get USAFA great, if you don't you the WP appointment is fantastic! Spend the last months of your high school year enjoying the path laid out ahead of you and if another fork in the road opens up, great, but if not you are lucky indeed all the same.
