Parent's weekend

Looking ahead to Parent's weekend in September- will kids be able to leave the Academy during the weekend? Can they spend the night off base? Just wondering if I need to make hotel reservations accordingly. Our oldest just graduated from USAFA and would get a couple nights off base during Parent's weekend. Thanks!

They can spend time off base after they are released. If they have watch, they have to report for watch unless the chain of command suspends it.
 
Since it is not the holiday weekend things could change. But plan on Friday being on base and Saturday off. If it changes it will probably be Friday off and not a limiting of leave. But. Heads up. Your plebe candidate will want to eat and sleep. Dont plan a world wind tour of NYC
 
The usual is that they have liberty from after football game on Saturday through Sunday 1800. If no home football game, then liberty will start after parade march on, class pictures, and swearing in Saturday morning.
 
If you love pizza, I highly recommend Salvatore's Pizzeria in Port Washington, Approx 20" away, coal fired oven, thin crust, cash $ only though.
 
In past years they have, so it's a safe assumption they will be allowed to spend Saturday night off campus this year as well.

By the way, if you are planning on coming for parents weekend, make sure to be there for morning colors on Friday so you can see how they start their day and sit in on their classes with them.

Do you recommend a certain hotel to make reservations? Would you recommend booking 9/6-9/9?
 
We stay in an Airbnb in Port Washington to avoid the overpriced hotels. It is an easy ride on the Long Island RR (one stop from Kings Point) then an Uber or short bus ride to KP. If you prefer a nearby hotel, book early (in the next few weeks) because all nearby hotels will fill up on parents weekend. Plan to be on campus or with your plebe from 0700 Friday to 1800 Sunday. Let me know if you have other questions.
 
There is not much near KP. There are some non-chain hotels, a holiday inn express, a best western i think as well which are 10-15 minutes away. The City is to far away, time wise, although distance wise it is equal to more suburban locations. There are hotels near LGA which is 25-30 minutes away. We stay in or around Carle Place where there are a few chain hotels, Hyatt place, Courtyard, etc. There is also a Marriott in the same general area in Uniondale. About 20-25 minutes away from KP.
 
We went on a visit last March and found a quant little AirBnB 1 mile from USMMA.
It’s no frills, but close and cheap, comparatively.
Just booked it again for reporting day...[emoji6]
