New Student Indoctrination (Summer 2019)

Phase 2 candidate here. Have not heard any correspondence from my advisor or unit.

Im hoping they will allow us to bring moleskin at least. I'd imagine breaking in boots is gonna be a lot less fun without that.
My son is at nsi now. I've heard from some that got sent home for medical reasons that they took her moleskin they let you keep prescription meds only.

My advisor confirmed that it would be okay to bring moleskin, but like with most military trainings, it's not a garauntee.

I have also spoken to other candidates and it seems like they were allowed to bring it. If not, I'll live though.

I would always bring moleskin. If the confiscate and store it your not really out anything. I also expect one of the academic sessions would deal with foot care.

So is everyone saying they have had no contact at all with their kid at NSI? No letters or anything?

Search above for email sent to NSI2 attendees. They can call from their phone when they arrive and then cell phones are placed with other personal items.

Letters in are discouraged due to short duration. Have not read anyone indicating they've received letters home.

A friend of my son's enlisted in the Navy and is at the same base in IL. His first letter took 6 days to get to my son. So I'm hoping I'll get something by tomorrow.

Parents started receiving letters today.

Anyone receive a letter yet?
No. At this point I guess we won't.
Yes. Some started receiving letters today.
Just received letter from DS...he said he is having fun and doing well. He did mention lots of kids failing PRT though...not sure what happens with that but my DS passed.[
I don't believe anything happens there at NSI if you do not pass the PRT, but they need to pass it when they report to their units in the fall in order to activate their scholarships (for those on scholarship). If they do not pass or are on the borderline at NSI, one would hope it is a wake-up call to bust their butts when they get back home.

I heard from a parent of a current NSI 1 candidate that they not only confiscate everything (except contacts/glasses, feminine hygiene, mouth retainers, and prescription medications), but that they throw it away (OTC meds, sunscreen, etc). You get issued everything they want you to have, or you have to buy there what you need/want. I would not invest a large amount of money preparing and would not bring any OTC meds. If you take anti-inflammation meds like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, you will need to get a prescription to continue having access to them.

And of course, I have no idea if this is how they will conduct NSI 2!

Do you know for sure if that is what will happen for those who failed to pass the PRT during INDOC?

I cannot say this with 100% certainty, but I cannot imagine them doing an official PRT at NSI. They have 400+ candidates who will be attending schools all across the country. They will not want to be reporting scores on all these candidates. I do know for sure that the candidates will need to pass a PRT in order to activate their scholarship. No funds will be disbursed on their behalf until that is passed.
