Army ROTC 2023-2024 2nd Board

Bummed we didn't get board results this week! I'm dreading another week of this stress and implusive brower-refreshing....

My son is in the midst of scheduling his DODMETS exams for West Point. Does anyone happen to know if those exams will be good for AROTC if he goes that direction? This has been a nightmare, and I'm really hoping we don't have to do this twice...
He won’t have to do the complete DODMERB process again. His medical info will be reviewed again by each source of commissioning though. My son did DODMERB for West Point and was medically qualified. Then when he got his naval rotc scholarship he got another email from DODMERB saying he was medically qualified for navy rotc as well. Different branches have different qualification standards.

This is an email we received from a ROO on Friday:

This was just passed down about two minutes ago from HQ U.S. Army Cadet Command:

“The National App website is still down. That is preventing new application starts and releasing the JAN Board results.

Unfortunately we cannot release the JAN board until the application site is turned back on. Please know we are doing everything we can while the Army works a solution.

With respect to new applications. The deadline to start a new application has been extended until 4 March 2024. The March board is still currently scheduled for 18-22 MAR.

This is frustrating….and my apologies on behalf of USACC. However, if you’ve been meaning to get started on an Army ROTC Scholarship application, you’ve been given a month’s additional time to do just that!

I think CC needs some more winners to study IT at their college choice.

That's really good info. Thanks for sharing.

Frustrating this is happening now as we all wait to learn our fate, but at least this gives us some idea what's going on.

My DS never contacted and talked with ROOs at schools he was accepted. Did you mean he should be reached by one of ROOs from schools if he gets award scholarship?
No. My DS never communicated with the ROO of the school he chose to attend. Once he got scholarship he chose school and then he reached out to let them know he was attending. Only then did he start getting group e-mails from ROO with info on upcoming year and when to report.

I made sure my DS got everything done for the 1st board and even DODMER for West Point. You are boarded once and given a score and an OML is created. For the first board there is a cut off for the 4 year. On the 2nd board they add all of the new boarded applicants and look at the OML and then select a certain number. I do believe that most 4 years are selected on the 2nd board. Some 4 years will be awarded on the 3rd if newly boarded or if not enough will bump some 3 years to 4 years. The only thing you can change after being boarded is a better PT Score or SAT/ACT Score and they will add that to your boarded points so it can help you move up on the OML if you improve. Good Luck! Oh and yes when DS was selected on the 2nd board the schools were locked and you could not make changes right before they were announced.

All I know is that 4 years ago they came out on a Thursday. I think the week after the board met. This message board will blow up when they come out!

Question about boards. Are they ONLY selecting on the March 18-22 date, or is it possible to get selected earlier.. say a random date in February? I'm just confused about if they're rolling or if it's definitive. I got CAP'd by UT Austin (bummer but we push forward lol) and their appeal deadline is March 15, I wish I started ROTC scholarship app earlier so I would potentially have the scholarship to help me get in but at least it's not too late for UMich's RD.

The submission time for the January board was up a while ago. You have until early March to submit an application, which then will be reviewed by the board from the 18th-22nd, and you’ll receive a decision *probably* within a week of that. Unfortunately, it’s not rolling.

Imperator gave you the info you need but there's one additional piece.

School ROO's/PMS have the authority to issue a local scholarship and that, I believe, is done on a rolling basis. I can ask my partner when he wakes up in a couple of hours.

As was said, not rolling. The AROTC review board only meets 3X a year -- October, January and March -- with a round of scholarship awards given after each.

Nothing happens in between.

If this helps, I believe NROTC and AFROTC may review monthly or even have the ability to award on-the-spot scholarships in some instances. I have no idea what the deadlines are for those programs but if there is still time you may want to consider applying for those branches' programs.

True. It was the same way for NROTC when I went through two decades back. We had guys going through their freshman year that had not picked up a scholarship nationally. They were awarded a scholarship by the Primary Military Instructor starting their sophomore year.

Army from what the ROO presented us has a similar program.

@SpongeBob Make sure you have plans B and C in place. ... Options you can afford without the scholarship and options that are not UT Austin or UMich you can attend with the AROTC scholarship. You might surprise yourself and show up at a plan B or C school and 'fit right in' academically, socially, and with ROTC. If you have a resume that would get you into UMichigan from Texas, or anywhere else, you likely could get into a number of other great schools - large, small, public, or private.

Second this - there are a very good amount of ROTC programs that get a ton of support from their hosting universities. My kid's ROO has said repeatedly that she has a good chance at the national scholarship and to pursue that diligently but if it doesn't work out, they have funds available for her at the university level. Keep that in mind everyone if things don't shake out for this avenue - plenty of routes to take!

So my partner did confirm that ROOs have the ability to award a local 3 or 4 year scholarship on a rolling basis.

He said that, in fact, the smaller schools/programs have quite a bit of money to do this, because the cadets that win National scholarships generally don't consider the smaller schools.

So please do keep that in mind and get to know the ROO and PMS at your school of interest!
