Hangout: USNA Induction Day / I-Day Class of 2028: Thursday 27 June 2024

I should have been a bit more specific. Do NAPsters partake in all the in-processing "activities" on I-day? Just want to know since NAPsters arrive a couple days early to USNA. I assume, they'll get issued all their gear before I-day.
Yes, NAPSters report to Bancroft a few days prior and have some liberty during that time. They are given report times to arrive at Alumni Hall on Thursday, just like the other plebes. There are a few stations they do not do, but they are in-processed to USNA, are “greeted” by their detailers, learn the ropes, get into whiteworks, march onto T-Court, take the oath, say last goodbyes to family, and march into Bancroft to officially start Plebe Summer.

For those who have accepted, please reach out to your local parent club! In Wisconsin, we are WISNAPA! Please send an email to wisnapacontact@gmail.com We also have a facebook page - you will need to show verification of your acceptance.

Congrats! Go Navy, Beat Army!

Very few folks on here will understand the full meaning of that statement.
I heard the barbers there are very hit or miss. It makes me want to find a barber off of the yard, would it be hard to make it off the yard to get a haircut every 3-4 weeks?

Consider you would only be able to do this on your very limited time during plebe and youngstar years and you’ll be in your dress uniform as a plebe (probably not the best clothing to get a haircut in). Is it hit or miss with some of the barbers? Sure, but you’ll figure it out and it isn’t the complete end of the world with some of the barbers that are “off.” Up to you on how you’d prioritize your liberty time.

You’ll also have leave days in Nov, Dec, Jan, Mar, May, and summer so that’s gives you a lot of options for getting the haircut of your preference. Bancroft barbers can cover the in between time when schedules are tight and your town liberty is limited. Once your an upperclassmen you’ll have more freedom to make these choice and wear civilian clothes in town.

You’ll soon realize that no one cares about your haircut as all the other plebes will get the same hair cut as you! Plus you’ll share being bald with everyone for your time during PS. If I were you, scout which barber cuts the best at USNA and simply stick to that individual!!

I have the I-day dates and hotel already reserved.

Do a lot of midshipmen end up staying on campus for Thanksgiving break since it appears they only get Thursday-Sunday off?
If they stay there for Thanksgiving should we try and come visit or they will have plenty of others to keep them company?

When is parent's weekend for 2024? I can't seem to find dates for that!

Mids do all sorts of things for Tday: stay on the yard. Go home. Go with friends to their house. Stay with sponsors.

It varies greatly. My firstie went to a buddies house this year bc we don’t have great connections flight wise, so it’s not a lot of ‘bang for your buck’ time wise. And speaking of bucks, Tday is the most expensive flights. Bc everyone travels in the same compressed days.

Throw in potential bad weather? And yes. Lots stay. They won’t be alone, and they are served a wonderful meal.

I would say, that plebes tend to want to go home as it’s their first time allowed to travel home (those not close enough to do an earned overnight weekend at home). Also, mom and dad usually miss them and REALLY want them home.

I think parent’s weekend is August 8-11.
DS is still Pending, but I have a room reserved in the hopes that an accept is forthcoming.
🤞

If you’re on the eastern side of the country, Thanksgiving travel is usually feasible, but longer trips can get hairy. They can leave Wednesday afternoon and have to be back Sunday. Lots of mids go to other mids’ or sponsors’ houses. We had two extra mids with our plebe this year. Some families travel to Maryland and spend the holiday there because they can be more flexible with their travel window. Some mids stay, but all are taken care of by the USNA community.

Plebe Parents’ Weekend will be Aug 8-10, 2024. (Plebe Summer lasts 6 weeks) It starts early Friday. Families can watch PEP workout at 5:45am, followed by the Commandants Welcome at 10am, and then plebes are released to families at Noon Meal Formation. They return to Bancroft that evening. Saturday morning is a formal parade, then they released for the day, and you see them again on Sunday before they go back to finish Plebe Summer and prepare for Brigade Reform and the Academic Year.

Out of curiosity, do most plebes improve physically from the IPRT to the PRT administered at the end of the summer? I would assume that the daily grind would help the plebes bolster their scores on the pushups, plank and 1.5 mile run.

Haircut every 3 -4 weeks ? That's funny. It may be more relaxed, but back in the day we were expected to get a haircut every week (at least as Plebes) and god forbid you go to watch inspection without a fresh haircut.

Even nowadays, you will have a whole lot more to worry about than your haircut... time is a precious commodity, and no Plebe ever wanted to waste time finding a barber off the Yard. You may have time to worry about your hair as an upperclassman, but its really a non issue as a Plebe.

My 2 sport varsity athlete said that the best shape he was ever in, was at the end of plebe summer. And one of his sports was track (multi’s). Yes you be in peak shape. Unless you end up injured. That also happens.

Hi,
DS is trying to fill out the forms after pressing “the button”🙂 The Questionnaire form isn’t opening up in acrobat. Anyone else having this problem?

We are west coasters so DS only came home for one Thanksgiving and only because he had extra time as he was assigned for local outreach for USNA (called OPINFO).

Other years, spent with sponsor families, and this year with GF family. Honestly, for a late Wednesday departure, mid afternoon return on Sunday, with risk of weather and delays, it wasn't worth it for us. The cost is crazy. And his plebe year due to COVID they had town liberty I think, with restrictions.

Clear cache. And, yes we had the same problem.
