100 MPH Winds at USAFA today

Yikes. No fun. We had 70 plus in late November. So scary. Makes me so empathetic for those who have just experienced this horrific tornado.

Speaking of which I'm actually headed home from prep school. I thank heaven every day that my family back home wasn't hit. Just say it hit southern IL which is my section. Especially thanking the Lord that my younger sibling who had a game in the area had it moved last minute.

USAFA posted pictures on Twitter of a gigantic tree that fell on a house in the Base Housing development. From the sounds of it, the cadet area did not see much damage - I saw some smaller tree limb pictures, but nothing catastrophic. After hearing about the wind speeds, I thought we would have a repeat of windows blowing out in the dorms ala the great F-105 sound barrier debacle of 1968.

Quick follow-up - everyone should read the first hand accounts from this day in history. I had goose bumps and laughed at their account “In one split second, a 30-year Air Force career was born. I don’t know how many other cadets were similarly affected, but all those windows broken may have been one of the best investments the Air Force has made in recruitment and retention.”
