2017 AFROTC LEAD Info

My DD just called and said her detachment had 100% selection. Yeah!!!
Congrats to your daughter and her detachment! Curious to hear if the same is happening at other schools and if announcements are being made broadly. Unfortunately my son is home on spring break this week so probably won't hear anything...
My son also said the whole detachment is going, but added that the shortage of officers is the big influence here.

My son told me that the schools will doing some sort of two year ROTC plan. I think they are trying to get a lot more people commissioned and if so the percentages going to Field training should be high

I am a high school senior this year with a Type 7 Non-Tech scholarship. Any guesses for the outlook of LEAD selection for FS 2019 (two years from now). I have been hearing the Air Force is short officers, if so will that affect selections for the next couple of years?

Nobody has any clue, the trend is up now but it can change at any time. Anyone who tells you that they know what it will be like is uninformed or lying. haha

I second Sled's motion. The Air Force (and military in general) never really have specific plans for anything beyond 9 months...

I really wouldnt be concerned about this. You dont have to be the best cadet but you need to be a good student, do well on the PT along with all of the other requirements and let those above you know that you give a crap

When I was a senior in HS it was 60%. My freshman year it was in the upper 90s. When I was selected it was 100% and this year it is as well. Could be pretty much anything next year. My advice? Worry about grades, PFA score and involvement. That will guarantee you getting selected. Worrying about selection rates is something that really is unnecessary time spent and stress incurred.

To the poster above, its not just the Air Force. Marine DI's cant yell anymore either, or use PT as a punishment. So if you got a problem with the Air Force turning out wimps, take it up with the entire DOD.

i heard it was 12 hour days... Which can't be true right? That'd be so lame what would we do for the remainder of time?

You are absolutely going to be doing something the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. Actually when you "sleep" you most likely are writing letters back home or filling up water or going to the bathroom cause you have no other time to do that. If you do have "free time" you should be tidying up your room, providing/receiving advice from your peers, shooting the breeze, or doing something to keep your flight ahead of the game. If you're doing absolutely nothing you're wrong. Your peers are looking at you and if they see you're not contributing to the flight they will look at you negatively. Trust me. Been there. Seen multiple times I was placed as the worst cadet in the flight due to doing "nothing to contribute to the flight."
