You probably will not get an LOA. I think you mean appointment. LOA's are rare and usually given out early in the process or to athletes they're recruiting, etc. so don't be looking for an LOA. If you get one, great, but not getting one means nothing. At the end of the day, an appointment is all you need.

Yes, I did mean appointment. Thanks.

Just curious is SA big on accepting legacy children like Ivy /top colleges?? Since SA is tuition free do graduates make big donations to increase their kids chances? Also if older sibling is in SA does that help younger sibling??

There are many siblings who attend SAs, as well as children and grandchildren. The exposure to military life and SA experience cannot hurt. Whether it's a significantly tangible factor in the whole candidate evaluation is known only to Admissions. Those candidates are expected to meet same criteria as all other applicants. We have had 4 children from same family, 8 sets of sisters or brothers, and 2 pairs of twins in our USNA sponsor family. We have also had many DS/DD of moms and dads on active duty all services, SA grads all SAs, all kinds of uniformed connections. Equally, I know admirals and senior officers, USNA grads, whose son or daughter did not get in, for the usual reasons. Just recently, a well-known grad, and former CEO of two national retail chains, generous donor to both USNA Alumni and Athletic Assn, watched one child graduate in the last 3 years, and one child not get into 2018, for academic reasons. Dad was philosophical, said to me #2 child figured it wasn't meant to be, and was sad but ok and moving on.

The 5 SAs are government organizations and thus cannot receive donations directly, from individuals, unless specific rules are followed, nor could monetary amounts be ethically considered in the Admissions process. The respective Alumni groups are independent non-profit 501(c)3 organizations, and do raise funds for capital improvements and midshipmen/cadet enrichment programs. There are complex rules as to how external funds can be directed to and used at the SAs. At USNA, the Naval Academy Athletic Association is also an independent non-profit, which raises funds to pay NCAA Div I coach salaries and and many other costs not paid for with taxpayer money. The USNA Foundation is a separate non-profit within the Alumni Assn, which raises funds for the Foundation scholarships to prep schools, and coordinates donations from the alumni classes and individuals. These non-profits also partner with corporates to provide sponsorship opportunities, for example, NFCU sponsoring a home football game, or USAA being the presenting sponsor of the Army-Navy game. These funds are plowed back into USNA via the carefully designated legal conduits.

Similar set-ups at other SAs, with local variations.

Just a IMHO broad view.

DS portal status just changed this morning from "Complete Pending Review" to "Conditional Offer of Appointment LOA". and this...

"Congratulations! You are being offered a LETTER OF ASSURANCE (LOA), which is a Conditional Offer of Appointment. This means that if you complete the remaining requirements for admissions, you will be offered an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. Our records indicate you still need to complete items to become fully qualified for admission."

We are excited but guarded. What does it mean "...if you complete the remaining requirements..." and "...you still need to complete items to be fully qualified..."

He has a 'principal' nomination from our congressman, his medical/DoDMERB status is 'qualified' and on the portal on Required Actions it reads NONE and Special Instructions it reads NONE.

He has e-mailed his admissions counselor and Blue and Gold officer for clarification, but I was wondering anyone can shed some light on these 'remaining requirements'.

Same thing here! Son is emailing admissions to ascertain what, if anything, is still needed! We are thinking this is a form letter sort of thing because he is finished with everything except perhaps 7th sem transcripts. Exciting times!

How do you know if you passed the CFA? I have submitted all of my application materials, passed the DoDMERB, and received a principal nomination from my senator. My USNA portal says complete and pending review, but my mile was slow and my basketball throw was short. So does complete and pending review mean I passed?

Also, is the CFA a pass or fail grading or numerical? Thanks

Basically, you don't get told whether you passed or not. If the SA asks for a retake, that's an indicator you did not do very well. If not, you can usually assume you passed it. And the CFA has minimums, they are just not published. Also, the better you do on events, the higher your score for that.

Are there any appointments yet that are not LOAs, Presidential Noms or Principal Noms? Just regular appointments?

I won't be sharing my stats (such as grades, test scores, extracurriculars, CFA) because at this point in the process, all there is to do is wait and worry. I feel by sharing I will only create unnecessary anxiety or false hope amongst parents and applicants alike and I don't feel comfortable putting out that sort of negativity.

Here's what I can offer: I am from Connecticut with a nomination from Senator Blumenthal and Congresswoman Rosa Delauro (both competitive rankings). No LOA. Not a recruited athlete.

And here is a timeline of my application process. I think the early and fast turnaround for the Senator is why I am lucky enough to have heard back already.
Jan 31 - Applied NASS
Feb 13 - Offered CVW
April 14 - Denied NASS
April 23-25 - CVW
May 15 - Official Candidate Letter
Nov 1 - Senator's nomination interview
Nov 2 - Received Senator's nomination
Nov 5 - Congresswoman's nomination interview
Dec 1 - Finished application (BGO submitted interview. Everything else was done by Nov 11)
Dec 7 - Received Congresswoman's nomination
Dec 15 - Call from Senator Blumenthal congratulating me on my appointment

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

Congrats to you!!! What a relief! Could you share your state, stats, etc? We are all anxiously awaiting for our "little cupcakes" as someone put it so eloquently lately.

10APs classes (all scored 5)
SAT Math 800 Reading 760 (took once)
(Summer of freshman yr sent DS to 2months SAT camp Mon-Friday 9-5:00 yes it was expensive but felt it was good investment & took SAT early so he can focus on APs & Subject tests)
Took 3 SAT subjects: Math 2 800 Chem 760 & Physics 740

If he didn't get an appointment yet, is it just timing or was there a condition other than nomination in his LOA?
