Is there any timeframe for when dates are released for I day and PPW for class of 2027? Or is it safe to use last years dates as an estimate? Trying to plan accommodations in DTA before things book up.

So you could look at the official USNA website for published dates. And that is where you should derive your info. Sometimes well intentioned parents on social media make mistakes.

Be assured that the hype will say all rooms are booked. If you are willing to look outside of a 10 mile radius of the yard you will have plenty of options.

Keep an eye out for your son or daughter’s commissioning year FB parent page. Good tips there. And see if you can find a mentor. Either here, FB or the best option would be amongst your state’s USNA parent club.

Oh, I digress. Congratulations. This is an amazing and crazy ride. Lean on your fellow parents. Spend time with your kiddo. I’m so glad mine is home for leave and I get to cook for him and hang out.

You may find this post from yesterday helpful.

PPW dates may not be posted yet. Count the number of weeks in from last year’s I-Day, and tha/ weekend is typically the weekend, not long before Reform of the Brigade (when the other 3 classes return from summer training and leave), and the academic year begins.

I actually do recommend booking hotels early. While there may be good inventory, they do Jack up the prices. And? They are cancellable. So nothing to loose by booking early.

Unless you loose your reservation details and forget to cancel by the deadline if you change where you want to stay 😬

My parents have already reserved for Iday and now they're asking about PPW ( someone suggested to book for that as well). I don't see anything on the calendar yet. I see the comment that it would most likely be Aug 11-13 . When does the official word usually come out? Tia

They can (and should) make their PPW reservations now. Plebe Summer runs 50 days. For the next class that is Jun 29-Aug 18 2023 and PPW always falls on the sixth weekend (Aug 11-13).

Everyone in Annapolis knows the annual weekends of IDay, PPW, Herndon, Commissioning Week, 2/C parents weekend, homecomings, concerts, etc. (in addition to all the boat shows and local events). You will see that reflected in prices, but also in demand. It’s better to act early and cancel/change if needed.

Thank you!

Some people will also have Air BnBs available for those weekends too. My family never used one, but I know plenty who have. My personal advice is to stay away from West Street. Not a bad area or anything like that. It is just a very long walk to the Yard.

My mom got an air bnb for Iday that we just used for the navy game in September near the stadium. She read that it was best to get near the stadium and get the shuttle for that day.
She literally just booked at the historic inn for ppw. My parents stayed there several times for cvw and ss. Very close to the academy.

Idk if it will still be running, but there is a free circulator run in West street, between City Docks, and the Westin. It worked REALLY well for 2/C parents weekend. We stayed a couple block off West, in an Airbnb, and were able to use the circulator daily to USNA.

We even hopped on it up to the Westin, and walked to the game from there.

Annapolis Circulator, easy-peasy to get from upper West St. areas to DTA (downtown Annapolis).

Yes, the free shuttle was great once we discovered it and found the 'bus' stops. We had an air-b&b for IDAY off West past the "Graduate" hotel that was a long sweaty walk on IDAY. Found out about the shuttle and took it back to yard for the Oath.

I booked an airbnb for Friday 8/11 to 8/13. It's walking distance to Cantler's. I just checked 2026 schedule and saw the schedule saw events starting on Thursday. Any thoughts on attending or not attending the full schedule? We are only 40-45 minutes driving distance away, but want to be there for our daughter. I'm not clear on how much time she can spend with us.

Plebes are not released until noon formation on Friday. Thursday events are for parents to attend. Plebes can spend time with you Fri, Sat, and Sun but return to Bancroft to sleep every evening.

Thanks for the detail. Very helpful.

Most of the Thursday events are of the “drop in” variety. Static displays, museum tours, YP visits, academic exhibits, etc. They’re a “nice to see,” not a “must see.”

Now, what is “must see” viewing — hilarious in a sad kind of way — are the handful of parents who do cringe-worthy things during the meal formations on Thursday, ostensibly to get their mid’s attention. Yikes! 😬🙄🫢

If you are there for PEP Friday morning at 5:30, you can see them doing PT then there was an "open house" type activity at Dahlgren where you can learn more about the various majors/minors and activities offered to students. It was informative to hear from upper claassmen who talked about their projects and what they intended to do. You wander around then meet them after noon meal formation.

What would be recommended for PPW? A hotel near by such as The Graduate or an air B&B? Can a plebe request to spend a night with their family or they always must return to Bancroft? I booked for I day but hadn’t thought about booking for PPW yet .
