4 USAFA seniors may not graduate because of COVID shot mandate

While myself and my daughter do not agree with any of the Covid vaccines we/she is following orders. We don't think covid vaccines are right or work and even believe they make things worse. But she had a choice to make before accepting her appointment. She chose to get vaccinated. And we are evangelical Christians who do not agree with these cadets not getting the shot. However if we had a choice we would surely not be getting the covid shots.

that is an extremely reasonable view to have whether i agree or don't agree with your view of the vaccine.

Why are you wasting your time here instead of using your vast medical knowledge to cure cancer or diabetes?

Leave room for others. The world is full of people, and most of them aren't you. Be thankful that the ones who are not you are abiding by similar understandings of the systems you share and making some accommodations in their behaviors so they can create some common ground and serve next to the people you do agree with. Finding the common ground to work together used to be a first principle.

No offense taken:) I tell my kids that while I don't believe at all in the covid vaccines I can not prove that they are bad or are effective. I do believe in vaccines. Thank the Lord for them! I am going on my gut here. So I tell my kids follow orders until you can prove what you feel. Never go by what you feel and die on that hill over it. Feelings can at times be very bad leaders. That is why we are following orders and pushing ahead with an amazing career for her. Looking forward to meeting other parents for ice cream in less than a month!!!

Unlikely. Just as with the flu there will probably annual variants of COVID. And as with flu shots, there won’t be an opt out in the military.
It was more a tongue in cheek type of statement that this will be behind us after covid. It’s likely going to grow and be a constant issue. Why holding the line now is IMO so important for our military..

I remember statements from CDC docs decades ago talking about the issue of climate change or land development etc and new infections and diseases to be concerned about that we gave not a thought about then.

I'm going to post this here, even though it would fit in just about every semi-heated thread on here. It's about much more than the title suggests. Trying to divert my /thoughts/energy/passion these days into national unity.

So if you're strong, smart and tough enough, you'll listen to this entire video. ;)

Whether the threat of COVID is Understated or Overstated is not pertinent to military members. What is pertinent is that they were ordered
to get the COVID vaccine. There are some potential exceptions to the requirement, most notably medical or religious. One issue that the Navy has faced is that ALL of the religious objectors were denied which has raised some eyebrows within the judiciary and impacted the disciplinary/administrative processing and rightfully so as the rules do provide for potential religious exceptions but the reality has been that none were approved.

By the way, the lead discussion of nuclear winter is largely science fiction and people who were knowledgeable in the area of nuclear weapons effects have long disagreed with it. When I taught Nuclear Weapons Effects, we had detailed simulations that showed the effects of explosions on areas across the full range of weapon power from the small tactical to the large strategic bombs. It did not seem that the "Nuclear Winter" doomsayers had much understanding of this, even the basic fact that not all of the weapons were the same in terms of power.

The military is all about obeying legal orders, even if you don’t like the order. My understanding is that the order to get the COVID vaccination is a legal order. Those who don't want to obey it (in any service) should be gone. You can't have military members deciding which orders to obey or not obey. Just can't happen.

I'm actually ok with the cadets getting their diplomas, since they presumably have met the educational requirements, though I would want them to pay back the cost of that education. So, they are allowed to stand on their principles, but that decision has consequences, as most do.

Current active duty 11F. I’ve done everything from being a downrange ECP flying CAPs over Syria to doing a tour in IG. Ive replied to these types of threads before so I will keep my response short as is standard for feedback in my community. FYSA, I am saying this response for military members, not a civilian population.

These cadets gave up the right to choose when they signed the dotted line. I don’t give a damn if they think “it’s bad for my health”. Do you know what’s bad for my health? An SA-20. I am still tasked to fly inside that MEZ and destroy it. The military calls on you to sacrifice. If you can’t take a statistically safe vaccine for the military, you don’t belong in any branch of service. These cadets are, and will always, be replaceable by those who understand how the military works and will continue to operate.

TL;DR: COVID Vaccines are a lawful order and you will follow them.
