Hi all! It’s been 7 days since the admissions decision deadline for USNA, I still haven’t heard back. LOA, no nomination as some of you know.

What would any of you suggest doing? I feel like it’s best to just wait, but just waiting makes me even more anxious.

Thank you!

Sometimes in life, things fall through the cracks. Personally I would call to ascertain my status in case something like this happened. I probably wouldn't press on "When will I know" if I found I was still under consideration. Just my 2 cents. YMMV.

Agree. A call or email. Don’t surprised if you get told... hang in there.

Okay, I’ll email my counselor that I’ve emailed before. Would you help me come up with something to say? I don’t want to sound pushy or too eager to hear. I’d appreciate it!

You write it here - you have been great in your writing on the forums! You’d do better than us!

We can review if you want. :)

How does this sound? Feel free to make any adjustments if necessary. I don’t want to sound desperate!

Dear LT ____,

I hope you are doing well!

I was just wondering about the status on my USNA application. I have not received any updates on my portal since I got an LOA back in November, despite the typical admissions decision being April 15th. I am very grateful to potentially still be considered for admission at this point, especially in light of the fact that I do not have a nomination. I do not mind waiting by any means, particularly if I still have a chance at an appointment.

Thank you for all of your help in the process!

Very Respectfully,

Janitors is much better. I prefer phone calls when loking into something that's a bit urgent, and this should be. Fall back on the email if you can't get through by phone. And when you don't get a response the next day, try the phone again. Persistence, without being a pain in the a$$.

Surprised that USNA is even considering a candidate without a nomination at this point... so many excellent candidates with nominations and impeccable applications have been denied admission. One can only ponder that being an athlete, female, or a minority will weigh heavily on whether you receive an appointment.

She has an LOA. I bet she earned it ... and her WCS makes her wanted.

You have no idea why the poster received a LOA. The insinuation that they are being considered over candidates that are somehow "more qualified" isn't appropriate.

I read another thread with a similar theme. It seems like someone else got an appointment because they are women, or athletes, or minorities is the reason they got the LOA ... or appointment.

That line of thinking is very bad imo.

My understanding is that if they really want you a nomination can be found. Happened to a colleague of mine - he went to his brother’s commissioning at Air Force. He was a recruited hockey player but did not get a nom. The hockey coach convinced him to attend at the commissioning and a nom was “found” 2 days later.

If that were true then no LOA candidate should even bother to apply to their MOC for a nom since the academy will “find them one anyway”. I find it reasonable that an LOA with no nom can just reapply next year and try to get a nom in the next go round.
