Accepting Appointment

Thanks, I didn't realize the scan it option. I have his original one but it is too pretty to send and lose it.
All future and present Plebe Candidates: it's important to read instructions carefully (sometime read them several times). The instructions addressed scanning. Follow everthing as instructed. If you can't, then contact Admissions directly to get alternative instructions.

I had a question in regards to being notified of an appointment. Did you find out you received an appointment from your CIS login or did a MOC call/email you? I want to know if it's pointless to check my login every day whether or not I've been appointed lol.
Admissions gives elected officials a window of time to notify candidates, if they choose to. Some do not. Then the portal is updated.

You should check once a day - there could be some other type of notification regarding an appointment or prep or other actionable news.

I found out through DoDMERB/CIS. I received an LOA and just needed a waiver to be granted as I had already fulfilled the other requirements. I was bored sitting in class and decided to check my DoDMERB portal for fun and it read waiver granted, so I went over to CIS and surely enough it had hit the portal there as well. I waited about two days and then the fully qualified offer populated the portal, but no call or email from MOC. Remember everyone is different and every MOC does their own thing too.

Totally worth checking, that's how I found out. MOC never called/emailed, and I only found out by randomly checking my portal in the middle of class. Keep checking it 20 times a day it'll eventually be worth it.

Social media memory recently reminded me how our DS found out about his appointment. It was a special moment the MOC set up with our school office. Not all MOC’s will notify. Not all will reach out.
Try to balance breathing with checking your portal. Hang in there!!!!

Didn't want to make a new thread just for one simple question, but when do plebes find out what company they are in? Just looking ahead and was thinking about if family/friends wanted to send letters/mail, when I would be able to give them an address for the mail

For both USNA and USMA for my DS, the portal was the first place that updated.

They typically come out a couple of weeks before IDay from what I’ve heard.

Indirectly related, I applied to all of the DoD academies and have so far only heard back from USNA. If I accept my appointment from Navy, does that automatically suspend my candidacy for the others?

No. They all make their decisions independently.

Just a minor point - using the “big 3” might be taken to negatively imply there is a “little 2,” which are just as fine. Using “the DoD academies” is neutral and accurate.

Thank you!
(I also edited my original post with the correct language 😊)

My apologies, I completely missed your post until now! Since I had an LOA, I knew an appointment was coming, but I didn't receive an email or anything from my MOC at all. I just happened to check my portal and saw that the offer was there. Back when I was still Complete Pending Review, however, I found out that I had received an LOA through email and CIS login, as I checked my portal in the morning and saw that the LOA had shown up, and my email confirmed that it was in fact an LOA.

Hello,

So I didn't want to make a whole separate thread; however, I am also in a similar situation. I currently am planning on attending the USAFA and was wondering if I accept my appointment now and have a change of mind later if I can cancel my appointment. The reason I am asking is because while I am leaning towards the USAFA I am also somewhat considering the USNA. I will be visiting the USNA in March which should help me know where I want to be. However, since I am leaning more towards the USAFA for now I was planning on accepting my appointment now to get a early start on all the paperwork, and after visiting the Naval Academy if my heart changes then I can cancel my USAFA appointment and accept my appointment for the USNA.

Yes, you can.
