Hey All-
I’ve never posted but can’t seem to get a clear answer on this question and these forums have been so helpful on other stuff. My DS has everything pretty much complete for USAFA including DoDMerb and interview. Just learned last week he got nominated. Based on all my research he’s a solid candidate who has a lot going for him with the exception of a lower Math ACT - 24. His superscore is 31 with a 35 - English, 36 - Reading, 30 - Sci. We expect he will get it up above a 25 on his final retake but…does anyone know if USAFA combines the Math and Sci scores in their review?

I ask because the website says the bit about “candidates scoring below 24 on Eng/Read and 25 Math/Sci will generally not be offered a direct appointment”

I know that they care more about math but the slash between the Math/Sci is what makes me think maybe it’s a combination of the the two scores? He’s pushing to get it up but I’m just curious if anyone knows the answer to this one.

No, they do not combine.

When they say "...scoring below 24 on ENG/READ...25 Math/Sci..." what they're saying is that if either the English or Reading score is below 24, or either the Math or Science score is below 25...

"Once upon a time" USAFA used to post "minimum qualifying scores" for both the ACT and SAT. They haven't done that for several years now but....the numbers above...were what the "min scores" were, once upon a time.

As someone who as got a nomination and medical done early along with a 29 science, 33 reading 30 english but a 24 math. Yea no it's sadly not going to have high chance of passing
(admissions did give a small tip that they sent me here mostly because of my high B's in math and my 24 math. No clue what got me the scholarship only what didn't allow me in to Usafa with 2025 class)

Is there time to try taking the SAT? DS struggled with ACT but scored significantly better on SAT. Some folks do better on one test over the other. Just a thought.
