Hello, I was awarded an AFROTC scholarship for a technical degree in computer science. Does this mean I have to get a BS degree in computer science or can I get a BA degree? Thank you!

I’m assuming a BS but I would contact your scholarship technician to verify, that is definitely something you should clear up.

You should get a BS degree in computer science. Later make large dollars in tech world. Get good benefits. Health, dental, paid time off, retirement plans, etc.

Find nice spouse, have kids, dog, etc. Buy suburban home with nice lawn. Go to little league games, dance recitals.

Make your parents sleep easier at night.

Win-win.

It depends entirely on the curriculum and whether AFROTC recognizes it as a technical one. That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with BA vs BS. Ask the cadre at the school you wish to attend to confirm if your major is considered technical there. It can and does vary by school.

BTW. I did very well in life with a "mere" BA in Comp Sci.

Kinnem is correct. It comes down to the major being classified by HQ AFROTC as a tech degree.
I suggest you contact your det. for guidance regarding this issue.
I.E. I have seen computer degrees as a BA accepted as a tech major, and computer degrees as a BA as not a tech major.
It has always appeared to me that it comes down to specific courses the college demands that becomes the make or break regarding tech vs non-tech, regardless of it being a BA or BS.

@doonglover ...since you were awarded a technical scholarship from AFROTC it MUST be a BS, not a BA as per the instructions on the AFROTC Checklist:

2. SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES AND ACADEMIC MAJORS Your scholarship is offered in one of three academic categories:
Technical (Must be a Bachelor of Sciences Degree) Non-Technical
Foreign Language
If you are offered a scholarship in a Technical Major, you can select any technical major listed in the appropriate category below. Engineering degrees are only accepted if they are ABET accredited at the institution you are selecting. For all other Technical Major offers they must be a Bachelor of Sciences degree. Please refer to Page 1 for further guidance.
