AFROTC Board Scholarship Results

Congratulations! I am searching information for Space Force ROTC and found this forum! My son got a 4 year type 7 AFROTC. He checked the box for both AFROTC and SFROTC on the application. He submitted his essays for SFROTC but was assigned to take the interview from a local AFROTC detachment officer. We only received the decision from AFROTC. Sounds like you received a separate email for his Space Force scholarship. Do you know if no email from Space Force means no acceptance?
yes, my son received a separate email saying he was chosen for Space Force

Thank you! I recall Space Force only had one Board in Jan 22 and I don't think his application made it to that Board. We will contact Space Force...

My son got the reply from Space Force that they did not get the interview paper in time for the Board review. So my son was not considered at all. My son met all the deadlines that he was asked to meet. Any suggestions what he can/should do now? He is grateful for the scholarship from Air Force but he prefers Space Force.

FYI. The year following Field Training AFROTC cadets can request to commission to Space Force.

It takes place the summer between sophomore and junior year.

Thanks! I was one year off :) Do you know if this is only available at universities that partner with Space Force? Or it is available at all AFROTC universities? Space Force is such a new unit. It seems to me that it only works if the same university offers both AFROTC and SFROTC programs, or AFROTC and SFROTC have the same courses.

its not limited to university’s that partner with space force. My son is at a U that is not a partner and he just recently requested to commission to Space Force.

I’ve never heard of a Space Force ROTC. I was under the impression Space Force uses AFROTC. Not sure about that at all. Just my impression.

We were told this is new this year. SF AFROTC scholarships and all.. this is the first year for it...

That's true but only at a few institutions. AFA and AFROTC are still the primary sources.

Yes Space Force AFROTC is new this year. They had their own Board review in January this year. We thought my son met al the deadlines but maybe it was too close to the deadline. Or maybe we should have contacted the interview officer to send in his evaluation paper before the Board review. When did your son request to commission to Space Force? First year? Second year?

I understand It’s the first year for Space Force scholarships however I don’t think they have there own ROTC program. I believe they use AFROTC. My son applied to commission to Space Force in February of his junior year ( 5 weeks ago). He is in his third year of a 4 yr AFROTC scholarship.

Thank you! It would be great if they use AFROTC. My son is going to ask if he can commission to Space Force now or if other options are available. He feels sad that his interview paper did not make the cut for Space Force Board review.

An update for those who are interested in this: My son asked the Space Force if he can switch his AFROTC to Space Form ROTC now or other options are available. He got the answer "No because they are two different programs.". So if you are interested in Space Force, make sure you get your interview done earlier and your paper is sent in before the Board review.

I was wondering the same thing. We haven’t heard from the Space Force so I am assuming he didn’t get one… Can you let me know if you find out anything.

My son contacted the SF AFROTC, the same contact for AFROTC questions. He said that the cutoff date for the SF Board review is Jan 14, 2022 but they did not receive the paperwork until Jan 24 so he was not even considered for SF scholarship!!! It's mostly our fault that he should have his interview done much earlier. He submitted his application on Jan 3 and had his interview on Jan 10. It was a real rush. You should contact them and find out what the story is for your case. Good luck!!

Hi! Could anyone here explain how the transfer works? My son was just rewarded a 4 year type 7 with AFROTC. He is waitlist on School A and accepted by School B. He needs to respond to School B by May 1 but won't hear from School A for waitlist status after May 15. In the meantime he needs to accept his AFROTC before May 15. So I guess he should accept school B before May 1, accept AFROTC before May 15 and then transfer to school A should he come off waitlist?

My husband is concerned that transferring from School B to School A might make our son look bad with the detachment at School B and insists that our son should stay with School B even he is accepted by School A after May 15. I am assuming that many students have had the same experience in the past and it should be normal for students to transfer from one to another. Any insight is much appreciated!

AF ROTC…scholarship can be used at whichever school…believe you just enter it in WINGS…they do the rest

I would have your son reach out to the ROTC at school A and see if they could talk to someone in admissions to move him off the waitlist. Since he has the scholarship it is guaranteed money for the school. Plus it increases the number for the rotc program at that school

Thank you! Yes my son will do that right away :)
