AFROTC HSSP Chances?

Hello, I was wondering how good my chances are to receive the AFROTC HSSP relative to other cadets. I am a high school dual-enrolled senior. I have already completed my interview and will receive the results on March 22.

Here is my information:

UW/GPA: 4.0

W/GPW: 4.1

ACT: 26 (Could have been better...)

PFA: 60 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, and 12:17 half-mile (Also, could have been better...).

Academics: Ranked third among class, junior marshall, foreign language (3-years of Spanish), Advanced Placement, and Dual-Enrollment.

Activities: Various JROTC leadership positions and projects (Approximatley 15 in total), academic clubs (reading bowls), and a part-time job as a waiter.

Volunteering: ~150 total hours of community service (meal centres, food drives, performances, parades, and etc.).

Preferred Major: I put a non-technical, technical, and language major to suit the needs of the Air Force.
 
Nice stats! I'm a C/4C in AFROTC and I think you're pretty solid. At this point, you've done the interview, so it's really just sit back, wait and pray for the best. Hopefully your interview went well: I think it's pretty important. You can have the best GPA or PFA ever but if they don't think you've got a good attitude or aptitude for military service, then they'll tell the board that. You did JROTC, so you're probably good, I think.

Here are my (abbreviated) high-school stats if you want to compare (I got a Type 1 Tech scholarship last year):
GPA: 3.8
PFA: 70 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, 9:06 run
ACT: 33
SAT: 1920 (old)
Activities: Civil Air Patrol (Spaatz Award), BSA, soccer, baseball, church worker, referee
Major: I put Computer Science, Japanese, General Studies

NOTE: In hindsight, I regret not putting Gen. Studies first. I am not a STEM guy, so Comp. Sci is kicking my butt right now. I put Comp. Sci first to increase chances (although IDK if the order even matters). So I'd say good call on putting non-tech if you're not a tech person. Your stats are good, what with 4.0 gpa, JROTC and community service, etc.

I think you are maybe a type 7. Your ACT is low. The avg ACT for a type 7 is above 28. If I recall correctly the min to meet the board is 25, so you are just above the min. which is part of the PAR along with your gpa.

The thing with the gpa aspect is they will look at your school profile and course curriculum. With that being said although your gpa looks very strong it actually means very little for chancing without knowing the full picture which the board will see when they review your transcript.
~ Is your gpa on a 7 pt scale or 10
~ What is the weight of AP/IBs
~ How many students take APs. Does the school require pre-reqs prior to taking an AP. IE you could have taken AP Bio over std. Bio (course rigor).
~ Class rank. top 1/3rd is low unless you are coming from a school where 25% go Ivy, 65% go 4 yr and 10% go CC or workforce. Basically in that scenario it is saying your school is very competitive and does not hand out As like candy on Halloween.

If you are a male, than you need to start running now. That is a slow run impo. You want to be @ at least a 7:30 mile, which means you need to shave off a minute of your 1 1/2 mile. There will be cadets that will run 1 1/2 miles under 10 mins. PFT at the det. will be part of your score at the det., just like it will be part of your score on the WCS.
~ At our DS's det. they will have cadet PT flight instructors. For the run they will have people in the front pacers (fastest runners) At the back they will also have a different type of pacers, still strong runners, but their job is to make sure everyone makes it across the line in time. My DS did both, at his det the pacers in the back would scream your last name to pick it up bc they were keeping track of the time. You don't want that to be the 1st impression.

Finally, really think about it if you are awarded a scholarship that is for tech or foreign language, but really want to major in a non-tech degree. If you accept and think that later on you can switch to a non-tech, the chances are very, very slim that HQ AFROTC will approve it. Yes, you can stay in AFROTC, but if you switch to non-tech after they said no, they will revoke the scholarship. If you need that scholarship to attend your dream college than you will be scampering around to find the funds. I would also add don't go down this road of just because you like JROTC in HS that you will enjoy AFROTC. The reason they allow that freshmen yr escape clause is because they know that this is the try out yr. Same thing in that situation regarding if you need the scholarship to attend, but opposite, love the major, yet decided AF is not for you.

Best of luck, and remember whichever way it goes, scholarship recipients on most campuses are the minority, @ less than 20%. Being on scholarship is not talked about. As I have said many times the only way you will know who is and who isn't will be if they having issues with tuition or stipends AND on the 1st and 15th of the month when all of the sudden they are flush with $$$.

Curious because every yr AFROTC tweaks things. Is AFROTC now following rank like USAFA?
It used to be that AFROTC was opposite compared to USAFA. A C4C at USAFA is a freshmen, a C1C is a senior. In AFROTC a freshmen would be an AS100 and a senior would be an AS400.
I ask because you stated you are a C4C as a freshmen when I have always known freshmen as 100s.

Yeah, we do both. I'm referred to as an AS100, but my rank is C/4C. Sophomores are C/3C, and then POC are whatever cadet rank they're assigned (e.g. C/Maj, C/1st Lt). We don't use C/2C or C/1C. I really only use the C/4C for signature blocks, paperwork, etc. But when referring to the class group we would say "the 100 class" or the "400s". Yeah, it gets a little confusing. :D
 
@Pima , they are doing similar things in OTS now by calling them "Cadet" instead of "OT" or "OC" (in the early days of TFOT, ANG cadets were OC, a carryover from AMS). It's part of the whole move away from "special" officer accession routes, reportedly. The idea is that all routes of accession are equal now, so all officer trainees use the same title.
 
Back on topic now.

This cadet has a 26 ACT, no sports in their resume and wants to know chances.
 
If he or she really ran a 12:00 plus half mile, I would say it's not a good chance, but I'm assuming that must be incorrect or something. Even a 12 min mile wouldn't be good though. Just my 2 cents.

My assumption was 12:17 for 1 1/2 miles, or basically an 8 min + mile.
 
That would be better and I'm confident that's what they meant as well, but it's not what they wrote so who knows.
 
I received a type 7 scholarship last December that I hope to use in college next year...

3.7 UW GPA (5 AP classes last year, 5 this year)
1450 SAT (32 ACT)
71 sit ups, 63 push ups, 9:00 1 1/2 mile

Eagle Scout, 5 varsity letters in XC and Track, Boys State, Band section leader, lots of volunteer stuff

Technical Major (Electrical Engineering)

I also received 4 year Army and Navy scholarships, but those are totally different I think

You've got a chance!
