People tend to forget that many engineering majors are on a 5 year course, thus as Ahab stated they would be in a different EA year group than the 4 year program.

The reason I stated that seems like a low number is due to the amount of students that UPT bases can pass through in a year. Between Columbus, Vance and Laughlin they can wing @1000 pilots, ENJJPT wings about 160. That makes a total just shy of 1200. USAFA usually has about 55% of their class go rated or 500-600.

~ Basically for USAFA if you want rated you will get it. Many don't want rated due to the commitment owed.

~~ Nobody quote me on the 55%, it is just what I recall reading.

~~ Nobody quote me on the 1000 either. It is just what I know the Wing King stated at DSs graduation. I know another Mom that her DS winged at another base and they had the same class size. DSs friend winged from Columbus and their class size was the same too. Also mathematically it makes sense....they can push 14 classes through a year....multiply on avg 25 you equal 1k

Now if you add those two numbers let's say 390 + 560 there are about 250 slots left available for OCS. That is a lot.

Additionally, statistically 20-25% will wash out of IFS. From there 20-25% will wash out of UPT. If they can wing 1200 a year, than using a low number of 20% busting IFS and 20% later bust out of UPT, the number to meet the 1200 winging would be closer to 1750 needed for rated. Basically even if USAFA handed out to every cadet graduating (assume 900) and 400 to AFROTC that means 450 would have to come from OCS boards.

~~ I don't know how many apply for OCS, they have 2 boards a year. It just would seem to me that would be an insanely high number.

~~~ DSs UPT class had 2 OCS grads, both prior Es. His class started with 28, hence @10% of the class. His schoolhouse for 130s had about the same ratio.
I believe for my DSs year group a total of 800+ out of 2300 commissioned got rated. That being said, it is important to remember the number includes CSO, RPA and ABM. DSs unit alone had 13 out of 26 go rated. 11 went pilot, 1 RPA and 1 CSO. His year group had a 93% selection rate for rated. His unit had 100% rate.
