I just received my scholarship for Air Force ROTC (Type 7). My stats were 35 ACT (36 E, 35 M), 3.96 UW GPA, 10:30 1.5 mile, average sit-ups and push-ups (don't remember exactly, good leadership (moved half-way through high school), and a solid interview. My top 5 schools didn't include an in-state school, but my #1 was the University of Notre Dame and #2 was the University of Michigan. I applied before the Nov 1st deadline, and was accepted into both! I recently read the email AFROTC released about upgrading the Type 7 & Type 2 into Type 1's if the applicant is admitted to a specific list of universities (Notre Dame is one of them).

I'm am not trying to come across as ungrateful as I'm very thankful to be a scholarship awardee, but based off my stats, I would've thought that I'd receive the Type 1. I know it doesn't make a difference as it would be upgraded anyways, but I was wondering if anyone has a similar situation? They must have realized that I wouldn't be able to use the Type 7 unless it was upgraded (since I didn't have an in-state school on the list), right? Like I said, I'm very thankful! Now just waiting on USAFA, USNA, and NROTC!

Well, no idea. But the ND ROTC programs are top notch, speaking as an alum. Congratulations.

Congratulations. I know that was a pleasant surprise. DS also got that email and unfortunately only applied to one university on the list. He too has similar stats to you and is also waiting on USAFA results. It's somewhat disappointing to receive that email well after application deadlines had passed. If we'd known earlier we would have certainly applied to many more on the list in hopes at least one acceptance would be granted. As it stands, chances are slim for need-blind admission to an Ivy level school.

Your credentials seem to warrant a Type 1 for sure. Received a type 7 here too, with a 29 ACT, tech major, a slightly higher GPA, excellent fitness test, and lots of solid leadership including team captain on tennis and wrestling, Eagle Scout, etc. Sometimes the criteria selection is a big mystery.

Regardless, congrats!

Have you reached out to the Notre Dame AFROTC detachment? Probably a good idea to do this ASAP.
Congrats and good luck!

Awesome credentials, and congratulations on getting into such nice schools! Would you please kindly share the specific list of universities from AFROTC email? Thanks in advance!

This was a special upgrade for 2019-20 cycle year announced after college app. deadlines have passed. No one knows if it will be the case again for 2020-21 cycle. I don't recall seeing this in the past based on limited research of the forum.

The last memorandum from AFROTC HQ stated this was a one time thing and there was no guarantee it would happen again. Theres quite a bit of other info in it and i summarized it in a post.
