I'm an enlisted airman in the AF reserves. I'm considering going back to college with the sole purpose of commissioning into the active duty AF. I have a good civilian career with no need for a degree, so AFROTC and commissioning will be my biggest priority.
I am trying to decide whether to enroll at Wright State University (Det 643) or Ohio State (Det 645). I am equal distance from both, and tuition prices aren't too much different. I am slightly leaning towards OSU because of their reputation.
Does anyone has experience with either of these detachments? Is one of better quality than another? I assume OSU will be bigger. Are there pros and cons about bigger or smaller detachments?

I can't compare the schools, but what will your major be. I one school more reputable than the other with respect to your major. I understand you want to commission but you still need a degree to do that.

I may be a tad biased due to my relationship with OSU, but I would say that having a large detachment is definitely the way to go. While it may make it harder to stand out to cadre, you do get to meet many more likeminded cadets and have access to resources a smaller detachment might not have. In the end though it comes down to preference, and my thoughts are in no way objective. I would also take into account the experiences of cadets from smaller detachments as well as you make your decision.

I am an AS100 at Detachment 643 and it has been solid so far. We haven't had as many events as normal however each crosstown university typically is still holding their own in person PT and LLAB and AES classes are going well. They are definitely somewhat relaxed with the 100s and then step things up with the 200s if that's what you want. But as others have states Id give more preference to the college itself, I am a crosstown at Cedarville University

Miami University.

Completely different experience and different caliber of school. tOSU is an enormous, global research university: the community and campus are as large as a medium-sized American city. Very different from going to a small regional college or university.

Regarding academics, these schools are in completely different categories. Though Wright State has some well-respected programs (such as, obviously, aviation and aerospace engineering), it's not in the same league as tOSU, which is one of only 63 AAU member universities in the nation -- a list that includes CalTech, MIT, ivy league universities and the great public flagship universities. Your teachers at tOSU would likely include several world-renowned scholars who are at the peak of the profession. You'll get a more rigorous, more challenging and more substantive education at tOSU.
