AIM Decisions

I was told "I want to personally thank you for applying to the Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) Program offered by the United States Coast Guard Academy. This year’s applicant pool was among the most competitive in program history, and we have a limited number of spaces available for in-person sessions. I’m pleased to let you know that the review committee was impressed with your record, and we have selected you for the virtual AIM program (July 27th-28th). This also means that you will be placed on the waitlist for an in-person session."

I'm disappointed to find out I'm selected for the virtual session. I did think my application was pretty impressive.
Does anyone know if In-Person sessions are regarded higher than the Virtual sessions?
Was I just part of an unlucky lottery decision?
Does everyone get accepted into the virtual session?

Does anyone know about the transportation method? What airport we have to go to and how they will pick us up etc.

Here's a link to travel info on the CG website. TF Green in Providence and Hartford are the closest airports. For Bears Day we flew into TF Green and rented a car. It's about an hour drive to the Academy.
I'm not certain if they'll have any sort of shuttle for AIM or not. That town hall on Monday may have some good info regarding travel.
I will say, if you have family going who plan to stay the week at a hotel, I'd book ASAP. It's already slim pickings.

No, not everyone gets into virtual. This is a start of a humbling experience for every person starting their application thinking you're the cream of the crop when you never know. I know you would be bummed out but keep your head strong and move on and don't dwell on this. I thought I had a good application but was humbled with the 1st and 2nd board of ROTC. No one knows what they want in applicants and what they don't want in applicants. Maybe they saw something in others that wasn't in you or make it was an unlucky pick. No one knows for sure. Both virtual AIM and in person AIM grades you on who well you did equally but the only difference is that you experience a small slice of how Swab Summer would be for in person. I'm not sure how much barring it has on applications though. I went to inperson AIM last year and got honor platoon but I don't know if that helped my application or not. Good luck and just have fun. It's a rewarding experience for both virtual and online.

I wasn’t accepted either. On to plan B. Have fun everyone!

This was in my rejection email and I wasn’t sure what it meant.

“To help get you off to a successful start in the application process, we are giving you first access to a Class of 2027 Application Workshop event that will be hosted on June 28th at 7pm EST. You will receive a separate invite as this session is designed specifically for you.”

I was under the impression that anyone could attend workshop events because the Academy occasionally sends me emails about them. Is this for everyone who got rejected? Only some that got rejected? Or just everyone who wants to attend?

Keep your head up. As many have said, AIM provides no indication either way of appointment to the Academy. Just keep working hard and moving forward.

As for the workshop invite, I would just take it at face value and seize the opportunity. It may very well be something exclusive they're offering to specific applicants.

Good luck!

I understand your disappointment, but no, not everybody gets accepted virtually. FWIW... my DD was waitlisted for AIM last year, then eventually accepted to the virtual program. Fast forward to the March 2022 ---> she got an acceptance call from her A.O. and will be starting Swab Summer next month; USCGA Class of 2026. It's OK to be disappointed, but just know you are very much still in the mix.
