Air Force ROTC Scholarships / Admissions - AMA

Just want to make sure that my son isn't missing anything required for the AFRTOC scholarship application. No essays? No recommendation letters? No resume?
Also wondering how context is given to the GPA with no class rank (good), but no school profile either (bad). Or do they place premium weight on the SAT as a result?

Nope.

It goes through an algorithm, there's a certain weight to it, seems fairly balanced.

Once you are offered a scholarship do you have to Accept/Decline before knowing where you will be going? DS went to "Accept" the scholarship and was asked what college he was going to and what his major was going to be. He doesn't know yet as he hasn't received any application results. Should just best guess it?
I think he needs to be accepted into the school before he can accept the scholarship.

Doesn't matter, as long as it wasn't a tech scholarship and DS is planning non-tech.

It was a Type 2 tech scholarship. He was hoping to major in Chemical Engineering, but research is indicating that Chemical Engineering is not on the approved tech degree list. Unfortunately, all is college applications listed that as his requested major so they may, or may not accept him based on this. Wish we had known this prior to all the applications.

Also, which degrees will essentially remove him from the ability to go directly to UPT after graduation? I hear that BSEE is one of the degrees that can't go directly to UPT due to AF needs for EEs. Are there any others?

I'm planning on applying to AFROTC, but I'm not sure if I have the time to get the PFA done in time and everything else, especially with the deadline coming up and many rounds already gone. Would I be at a big disadvantage if I apply for the scholarship/program while in college?

DD is planning on applying to AFROTC in 1 year. She'll be applying for a non-tech scholarship (biology). She is going to middle college currently where she will take a bit over 50 units of college classes in addition to her high school classes. She'll be applying to college as a freshman but will be of either almost junior or junior standing after acceptance. Does this negatively impact her chances of receiving a scholarship?

If she was never enrolled full time in college, she is eligible. She also needs 3 years minimum in order to participate in AFROTC. Otherwise, no effect.

Do you have the dates for 2020 Summer Seminar? The 2019 dates are posted. I realize this doesn't have anything to do with ROTC but thought you may know.

Hi, I am a junior in High School, but is starting to plan for my future early. My GPA is not the best (2.6), but my SAT score (1300) and still waiting on my ACT scores. I am a Company commander in my JROTC battalion, an FAA certified student pilot, baseball player and active within my community where I have over 300 community service hours. My dream school is Middle Tennessee State University where I would like to participate in AFROTC. My question is do you think I will be disqualified automatically because of my GPA?

Yes, you need a 3.0 minimum.

The deadline is a little over a month away. You can get it done.

ICSP is more competitive - it's not application based, it's nomination based.

If Chemical Engineering is not on the list of desired technical majors, does that mean a student can’t get an AFROTC scholarship with that declared major?

I saw this specific situation mentioned a few posts ago but didn’t see you directly address the ChemE issue. Thanks!

Do any of the AFROTC scholarship interviews occur remotely? Nearest unit to us is 260 miles away.

Desired majors are just majors that we want/need. Choosing a tech major doesn't give you extra points or anything but most of our scholarships are for tech majors.

So yes; you can still get a scholarship.

Is it too late to apply for a scholarship for Fall 2020? on the website it says 1/17/2020 deadline but does applying this late put my son at a disadvantage for consideration? Just starting to learn about the ROTC program as 2 acceptance letters to college that have ROTC programs came in.
