ALO Issues

I've been having some troubles getting in contact with my ALO. It all started off when I was first assigned one, but had no contact information to use to reach them. I searched everywhere and still couldn't find anything, so I emailed the regional director (email #1). No response. I ended up just calling my admissions counselor and reporting the problem, and she gave me an email (email #2) of someone who could help me with the issue. I sent out an email to them that day, and got a response back from the individual two weeks later, with a link to a different email (email #3) to contact with the problem. I sent an email to email #3, of which he responded with: "Oh, that ALO retired a few years ago. What can I help you with?" I replied back asking if he could connect me with whoever my current ALO would is, but still haven't received a response as of yet.

I don't have too many questions, since my Uncle's sister graduated from USAFA and has been really helpful throughout the process. But aside from being able to ask questions, is it a major problem if I never get in contact with my ALO?

I'm told that ALO's have a much more limited role that in previous years so theoretically your experiences should have little impact on your admissions process. The exception is when it comes time for your interview and the examination for tattoos and piercings since those requirements were done by the ALO, at least in my DD's case.

Maybe search for an ALO by selecting nearby high schools on the USAFA ALO webpage? Our ALO was eager to help and in fact has already begun speaking to my DS who is a sophomore in high school. I'm sure you'll find an ALO eager to help as well if you query enough of them.

Last year my DS had zero communication with his ALO in the beginning. When most of his application was completed the ALO Changed in his portal and that new ALO Contacted him shortly after to schedule his phone interview (FaceTime). Again after that interview, it changed back to his original ALO that was previously listed. Again he had no contact until after he had been accepted and needed his signature to sign off on his tattoo form and then again to let him know he would be attending his School Ceremony (which due to scheduling conflicts they had to send someone else) and again when attending the local Parent Association Orientation before BCT/BMT - my son is at the Prep School. While many times it was difficult to reach them as they were traveling for work, if he ever had a question and was unable to reach someone first he would try emailing his USAFA Counselor (Who was great at responding usually within 48 hours) He said everyone he spoke with or was able to meet was amazing and extremely busy people!

No it is not a problem if you NEVER get in contact with your ALO. My DD read EVERYTHING she could on the admissions website and EVERYTHING that was on her portal. The necessary info is there. When it's time for your interview, someone will contact you. Best rest assured, while many ALO's are easily accessible, some are MIA. You can do it without one.
