Yea; but I was hoping that there would be a change of heart or at least some repentance. Obviously not.
Yo, bsa; if you look closely at the application online; you will see that there is ONLY 1; let me repeat ONLY 1 area of the application that could "POSSIBLY" be improved upon by waiting. That would be taking the CFA. Other than that, there isn't one thing in the application process that can possibly IMPROVE by holding off. The questions, surveys, essays, you junior year transcripts, SAT/ACT, etc... that you filled out on the online application is what they are. Most of those, you probably completed in the first week of the application opening up online. You probably already had your SAT/ACT and transcripts sent. So; in order to make your application 100% complete; there are only 2 outside influences that need to be accomplished. You ALO's interview and your CFA. That's it. What else can possibly be considered??? Nothing!!! Even you DODMRB and Nomination don't have to be complete for your application to be considered complete and ready for the board.
So you are absolutely 100% correct in believing that it "Can't Hurt". And I am here to tell you that it "Can Help". Will it help???? There are no guarantees. Will it HURT??? Absolutely NO. Not in any way, shape, or form. And anyone who tells you that you could be potentially submitting a substandard application by sending it in as soon as possible, is WRONG. No, that's NOT my opinion. I rarely if EVER say someone is WRONG. But anyone who says that there's some possible NEGATIVES to submitting the application prior to 1 September, is WRONG. Any areas on the application that CAN be improved upon; SAT/ACT retests, Senior year GPA, additional clubs, EC, Sports, etc... Can ALL BE AMENDED TO THE APPLICATION. You can send updated information to your counselor at any time. Like I said, the ONLY thing that could justify not completing the application in a short time period, would be if you couldn't do 1 pullup; or your basketball throw was 10 feet; or some other reason that you feel you would totally BOMB the CFA. Assuming you can do a relatively good job on the CFA, most definitely submit the application at your earliest possible time.
And for those who frequent these forums for the first time; and they are just NOW reading this thread/post; and are just now deciding on applying to the air force academy. Good for you. Apply!!! Contact the academy, get your application started, contact your ALO, and press on. Will your application be reviewed in September by the board? No, it won't. Does that put you at a disadvantage? No, it won't. The overwhelming majority of appointments will be given out in March. But there WILL be SOME appointments given out prior to that. And the sooner your application is available for the board to review it; the sooner you are eligible to receive an appointment. There are plenty of people who will apply and have the application done in August, who won't find out until March. And there are some that will have their application finished in October, and might be given an appointment in November. But just like we tell folks in the 2,489,093 posts asking: "What's My Chances"; "If you DON'T apply, then your chances are 0%". Well, the quicker you get your application completed and submitted for review by the board, the MORE reviews your application will be available for, and the chance of an appointment GOES UP. You CAN'T get an appointment if the board doesn't review your application. And they CAN'T/WON'T review your application if it isn't 100% complete and submitted. (Minus the medical and nominations). Best of luck to all..... Mike.....
