Another Army/Navy game question.

Haven't seen chains since my Dad used them back in the late 70's. Surprised passenger cars would even have/need them now.

Chains are actually illegal in many states. They chew up the road and can be a safety hazard if drivers pull over to install them.

Like @Heatherg21, I grew up in Northern California. I have many memories of installing chains on I-80, on the way to/from Tahoe. What an ordeal! I don’t wish that on anyone.

@Heatherg21 @MidCakePa Where did y'all grow up? I'm from the East Bay!

On the Peninsula. Die-hard Giants, Niners and Warriors fan. Loved growing up there. Love going back to visit. But glad I no longer live there. It’s a bit of a mess. 😐

LOL I have lived in upstate NY most of my life. I never used chains nor knew anyone outside of school busses that did … but my father told me to put spikes in my tires back in the 80s on my 75 Ford Granada. That boat never slipped with those things in my tires.
Brings back memories.... I loved the soothing sound of chains on school bus on a dark snowy morning. Sounded like, "Shing, shing, shing...."

I grew up in SF...in my late twenties. I had so much fun I had to move back to my home state. :)

I just checked the weather and it looks like it is 77 and sunny today in Philadelphia. So, I'm going to assume you are all liars and take back all of the cold weather gear we purchased over the weekend ;)
Cold (OK Cool) front coming in today/tomorrow and temps tomorrow will probably be in the 50's.

FWIW, I've been to a bunch of Army/Navy games and the number of cold/bad weather games far outnumbers the warm/sunny games. YMMV

👍 on proper use of “gouge.”

Layers are key! Of course, by being well-prepared, it will be 47 and sunny.

Here is more train gouge. Choose BWI Amtrak Station not Baltimore City Station, and 30th St Station in Market St. Manage it all from Amtrak app or website. Your mid rates AD discount.

BWI Amtrak station is 24 miles from USNA.

Acela high speed train is also nice but more expensive.

Such an easy way to travel, especially in bad weather.

Don’t forget it’s an NFL Stadium so there are specific rules on what you can carry in. Pockets are essential.

Stadium Bag and Carry-In Policy

Very late but definitely recommend Amtrak too! I made the mistake of booking my ticket from Baltimore instead of BWI (an hour drive to the station instead of 20-ish and an overall scary vibe in Baltimore) when I went to Philly this past weekend. Overall super easy and smooth and would definitely use it if you ever want to get from USNA to New York, Philly, or anywhere if you don't/can't drive (haha)

We're having some fluke weird warm days here in the mid-Atlantic but it will turn soon. Prepare to be cold and damp, pack all the gear (minus the chains) and it'll likely be warm and sunny! Don't pack it and we'll all be wet!

My plebe texted me he was selected for a MO to crew a Yard Patrol boat to Philly for Army - Navy.

Anyone's mid ever do this?
Do they still go to the game?

I assume they dock at Penn's Landing and do tours on Friday.
He's clueless on what's involved, I am just hoping he still goes to game as being from Philly, we have a big group of family and extended attending the game.

That will guarantee bad weather, and you’ll be forced to attend with a paper bag over your head marked “We caused this.”

Worst football game I ever attended was in philly. My Vikings were playing the Eagles on perhaps the coldest day ever. Wet and freezing. I have never been that miserable in my life. Straight to the bone.

For Army-Navy, do what we do for outdoor games and dress in layers, with Sorels, orange snowmobile suits, and a pint of aiming fluid tucked where they won't frisk you. I was at the 2015 playoff game in TCF Bank stadium when the Blair Walsh Project shanked the field goal and Bud Grant came out for the coin toss in his shirt sleeves. They couldn't even keep the footballs properly inflated. But that kind of weather is WAY NICER than 33 degrees and rain, which is a much more likely weather forecast for Army-Navy. You just pray for the game to end.

for those of you with NAVY football season tickets - make sure your Army/Navy tickets were purchased! I checked last week and realized mine had not been purchased by the Football ticket office. Ugh!!! they got me 6 yesterday. Thank goodness I checked and realized they did not get purchased or ticketed.
