Just keep waiting -- plenty of us still in limbo, ride it out.

I would reach out to the RC. Have you had much contact with him/her? I think they appreciate the fact that you have to plan your future. If you have the opportunity to speak with your RC, not only will you hopefully get an idea of where you stand, but if you do not get an appointment the RC can discuss why, and offer insight on what you should work on, and where you should be, in order to gain a spot as a Reaplicant.

RC told me DD to stay positive and should hear by mid to late April....maybe NWL has or will begin?

See, I'm not sure about that because there are a number of slates that have yet to be totally resolved. The only way I see NWL having happened or happening soon is if USMA is willing to shaft everyone on a slate that isn't resolved.

This is part of the 3Q letter:

"West Point has eliminated rolling admissions for this cycle. As such, all qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and May 1 2017"
Based on the letter everyone is put on it, so they will come from it. Slate winners, top 150 and then the remainder to make up their class % (ie: females, minorities, etc). I am just curious to see where they are at, since most will be appointed by May 1st and my DD's RC said she should hear by then. She didn't win her slate, as recruited Athlete did. She is #2 and only 1 slot open from same nomination source.

This was RC direct quote via email to her on 3/24:
"You will likely hear something in mid to late April. Just hang in there and continue to think positive."

I'd contact the RC...they are there to help, not to be feared.

What is the purpose behind no rolling admissions anymore? I feel like they are shooting themselves in the foot if they make a bunch of applicants wait several more months. These high achievers may very well decide on somewhere else (USAFA, USNA, etc.). I can't believe the recruited athletes fall under this as well???

Waiting is something we'll be doing often in the Army. I know it's a painful lesson but it is the first of many USMA skills we will learn, provided we are admitted. It may not seem like it, but they are already conditioning the class of 2022 to become Army Officers. Everything they do is for a reason, including cutting rolling admissions. Better start practicing "hurry-up-and-wait."

Out of curiosity, how do you tell if you've won your slate? Doesn't the nomination go in everyone's portal or is it only for the slate winners?

You dont really every "know", unless your RC tells you. The portal doesnt indicate even which nomination was used for the appointment if there are multiple noms. My son had three nominations slots he was competing for because one senator had two and gave him a separate nomination for each. He had another from our congressman. When my son's RC told him he had an appointment, I asked which nomination would be used, and the RC said, "I don't know yet". They maintain that flexibility right to the end.

I don't find this much different than many of the top ranked universities that do not have rolling admissions. Sure, there may be Early Action or Early Decision options, but many of them are binding decisions, or force you to choose only one school to apply to for EA. So the vast majority of applicants to these schools must wait until March/April timeframe to know if they got in. I know every kid/parent would love to have this whole processed wrapped up in the fall each year to be to enjoy the rest of the school year, but I know for our family, they were not going to commit to the first offer, but wanted to wait to see what all the offers were before making the final decision.
