Anyone have NROTC Marine Corps results back yet?

It was listed on my son's scholarship application status page on 24 November that he had been selected for a 4-yr Marine Option scholarship. We received a call from the recruiter on 3 December to come out and present the scholarship. I can't answer why you were told the offers would not be made prior to Christmas. We were told to expect the results end of November/early December, and in our case it was true. We are in Virginia...maybe that makes a difference. I doubt a Marine would release official board results without the appropriate authority of being able to do so, and therefore highly doubt our son received "really early notice" because his "recruiter has a friend inside the board" who leaked information.

Oh BTW, I didn't say "would not be made prior to Christmas" I said it would be just before Christmas like this week or next week, that's what I was directly told, not my conjecture. I also highly doubt a Marine Officer (our Captain M.) would tell us that "no information was out" (as of yesterday) for his slate of applicants. He's also the one that told me that it was highly unlikely anyone got information before Thanksgiving and again, he used my e mail to question his boss.

Maximus, what region are you in? We are in CT and my son is still waiting to hear the results from the November board. We hope it is any day now!

What a difference an hour makes and my apologies pnutfan!

On a hunch and idea I got from Larry Mullen about going directly to the source, I called the NROTC Scholarship office up in Quantico and simple asked if my son received a scholarship. Surprise! His application was incomplete and he wasn't even considered for the November Board Scholarship even though he was told in a face to face meeting it was! Told to call his Captain for an explanation. Boy do I feel silly!

We were told (well, I was told, I haven't told my son yet) to wait for the February Boards and you'll get notice by April. Not an option as we're going to have to move on and take the AROTC Scholarship. Thank God I made my son accept the AROTC offer before the deadline was up last week! Plus he received his Nomination for the USNA and USMA last weekend and phone calls from both Academies Monday night, so we'll just let this one die on the vine.
As far as I'm concerned the Marine Corps NROTC Option Scholarship was the hardest to work with and least organized. First, they never called us back from about mid summer on even after we made requests for the application and filled out the on line form. I suspect this is due to not dealing with the regular enlisted Recruiter, out of the same office, trying to get my son to enlist first on the Delayed Entry Program, and then work on the NROTC Scholarship. They seemed to lose the paperwork after I explained to the recruiter that showed up at the house unsolicited one evening at 6:30 pm, that since I was once a Marine, I knew the advantages and we already had College lined up, thanks but no thanks. This was the third time I had to explain to the NCO that our plans were not his. This same recruiter ran into my son a few months later and asked my son and I'll quote "Hi ****, is your Dad still a Prick?" I should have known right then...

If anyone wants the number to call, PM me and I'll send it or just look it up on the NROTC page, it's the number for the Marine Corps option, a 703 area code number.

Florida.

Call the NROTC Marine Corps Office in Quantico, make sure you have your child's last four digits of their SS number and they'll give you an answer.

WOW about the recruiter...so sad to see the unprofessional attitude. Also very interesting that this attitude was displayed to a very qualified candidate (already has AROTC in hand and applying to SA's) Maybe the recruiters needs to be re-trained on how to get people to sign on the dotted line.

Maximus, I just tried to call the USMC number on the link you posted and i was told they couldnt release my status and I should look on the NROTC website. What number did you call?

I don't think it was total unprofessionally handled, I think it was more of a slip up and saving face for future explanations about unfinished contracts. The thing that chaps my butt is how we were placated and had to jump through hoops the last week and all for nothing. Just a show when even I knew it was too late and the deadline had passed. This whole Scholarship process is a learning curve and this web site has helped immensely! I wish I found it a year or two earlier!

Maximus...first of all congrats on your son's admission to USNA and USMA and his AFROTC scholarship. That is GREAT! and thanks for the number....I tried but no answer. I had a similiar experience with the local recruiter who was pushing hard for my son to enlist. In fact, he told him that his chances of getting the scholarship were a long shot (which is the direct opposite of many other's opinion of his chances) so he should enlist in the meantime. I had to clearly tell him that my son will enlist before college only over my dead body!

We are still waiting today though I am nervous because the NROTC site claims that 2 items are "waiting to be processed" my son's "transcript" and his "photo". HIs marine captain took the photo himself and my son brought a sealed transcript to the meeting with the captain do I know that the Marines SHOULD have this information and not be waiting for it. My son spoke with his Marine captain last week and he told him that all was in and we just needed to wait.

Well, hopefully, the waiting will pay off.

It seems as though every district does things different, but everyone ends up at the same place. We never dealt with a recruiter at all and my son was never asked to enlist. Still waiting here too. I kind of think if we were going to get good news, it would have already came, but who knows. I have talked to people that said never count yourself out and have received sholarships as late as July-kind of a last minute thing if someone drops out just before school starts. I think they will give more scholarships this year than in the past.

Is there anyone on here that was not in the November board, but will be in the February board? I was just wondering where the process is at. I know for the early board, everything was done in September--a full two months in advance.

Please note, my son has not been appointed/admitted...yet lol He's been Nominated for both and had calls from the Admissions staff at both but....no big letter just yet. He does have the AROTC scholarship and acceptance to The Citadel.

As to the NROTC MC Boards, from what I understand, both the early ~and late board give the same amount (numbers) of scholarships out and it's something on the order of 600 per year, total.

As to your other issue, my sons NROTC MC web page says the same thing, item missing and the Captain said there was nothing missing and yes, we would have to now wait till the February Board and that announcement will be made in April. Unfortunately I'd say you're in the same boat we are, not up for the November early Boards. I was able to drag out of the Captain that the Notifications went out last week and you should have been notified by your Captain. Like I said there is a game played with the NROTC MC option Scholarship, they want you enlisted on the Delayed Entry Program to get the premium service.

Unfortunately I suspect there is yet another issue at play, the Captain directly told my son that, and I quote "the Marine Corps wants it's Officer Corps to look like it's enlistment and unfortunately you're a white male" un-quote. It's not the first time he/we heard that and I was standing next to him when he (Captain) said it, it was like someone kicked me in the stomach!

Maximus - I don't know what your son's priorities are but this is not necessary at all.

It would be perfectly acceptable for your son to accept an NROTC scholarship until all his options are known.
I would hate to see someone turn down a fine opportunity while waiting for another.

If Army and AROTC trumps the NROTC scholarship then terrific but if not he certainly may accept.

None of these scholarships or appointments are binding if you accept. For academy appointments you have until May 1 to accept. If you are not sure then take your time before accepting the appointment! Do not accept an appointment to more than one academy.

For the ROTC scholarships, if you accept now - you may reject it later!

This was very unprofessional and should be reported to his COC - IMO.

It is true that the service all want their officer corps to mirror the enlisted. This has been a goal since Vietnam. As a country, we definitely do not want to go back to a time where the Officers were white and the enlisted were Black or non-white.
However, this doesn't mean that white males won't get scholarships.
This comment is insulting to not only your son but every non-white applicant.

Hey if anyone here can help me out with the mystery that is the NROTC Marine Option November Board results thatd be super...im from NYC and have not heard anyhting yet. my captain said by christmas id be notified of a result whether it is good or bad. i sent him a message last week and still he has not recieved any results yet from the november board...i am just wondering what is going on i guess and if anyone has any take on the whole situation..i have a 4 year AROTC scholarship but the Marine one is my first choice/goal

Just a Mom, we are under the dilemma of having to spend more money on deposits and overnight stays at some schools that are on the MC list and have a full plate. I'm a former enlisted Marine and nothing would make me happier than to see my son become an enlisted Marine or Marine Officer. His dreams are to become a military officer and I can't influence him in this decision.

As to the other issue, I've talked to a few friends (officers and enlisted) and the consensus is the same, don't make waves. BTW, the other time we were told this exact same thing (white/male) was by an Annapolis alum at an NROTC unit in North Florida. My son was with a few of his NJROTC friends on a school visit to a NROTC unit and, while among a few of my sons friends and comrades (Spanish and Black), he asked what he could do to enhance his resume....the LT looked at him and said...[again quote]..."Well being a white male isn't going to help you...next question..." /end quote... Again, I was standing right next to my son when this guy said it and everybody in the room was embarrassed. It's a problem today.

My son would kill me if he knew I posted this and ironically both times, he said "Well Dad, at least they are being honest" I didn't know what to say and we haven't talked about it since.

Hooah, yea im from LI. Im assuming ur dealin wit Cpt. W. Im still waiting on the results too i think i mite call him soon

Maximus and others...I do not think that they have published the results for the NROTC Marine Option from the November board. My son told me yesterday that he spoke to his Marine Captain last week to confirm that there is nothing missing (despite what the website says about items waiting to be processed). The Captain told him that his full application was submitted for the November board and that the results were not out yet. This converation, coupled with other posts by folks waiting, leads me to believe that they have not posted all results.

In fact, my husband, a career navy enlisted man, now retired...summed it up pretty well, "Let's see...anyone sitting on that Marine board probably has another full-time job, so they probably finished up their reviews over this past weekend and got all information to their office assistant to post and by the time the assistant posts this info it will be Wednesday (Christmas Eve)."

Anyway, I hope we hear soon!

Like Maximus, I just spoke with someone at the 703 number in Quantico. The person told me that the board results from the November board were in, and like Maximus' issue, she did NOT see my son's name on the list at all...either those that received scholarships or those that were denied.

So, I called my son's Marine Captain and he confirmed that all was submitted for the November board, that we would be notified before him and that we would be notified one way or another of the November results but that we may not receive them until early January. Curiously, he told me that there is also a board that meets at the end of January (but I wonder if he means the February board?).

This is all very confusing and I don't understand the miscommunication. I wish someone who knows what is going on would inform the rest of us!

I tried that number again and I was told I got a 4 year NROTC MC scholarship and that it would be for one of my top two schools, VMI or Fordham

thanx Maximus for the number
