DD birthday approaching, end of PS approaching, PPW approaching
Will an all black Apple Watch 7 a good gift. They claim that is super resistant (did you watched the commercial?! šŸ˜€) Opinions

The Apple Watch is nice. Itā€™s easy to meet your calorie count with all the walking you do. It also ensures you donā€™t miss notifications. The only real drawback to smart watches is that they are unauthorized in classified spaces. Midshipmen usually get exposed to some classified information throughout their four years, but not frequently enough to make Apple Watches prohibitively inconvenient.

A lot of Mids have Apple watches. They are great if you use them for their capabilities. Be good for tracking runs around the yard, sleep, etc.

Canā€™t speak to the 7. But during PPW, we headed down to D.C. Stopped at the Apple Store in Georgetown, where DS (bless his heart!) bought DD an Apple Watch for her birthday. Four years later, sheā€™s now a 2LT and still wearing it. That says something.

Mine uses his for tons of things. Helps keep him on track. Yes to the Apple Watch āŒšļø

Yes, it's an excellent gift especially if she's already in the Apple ecosystem.

Good point!

My main concern is durability, the other option is a GShock

I personally wore (and still wear) a G Shock. I like it because I can wear it to work and not worry about getting fluids on it or breaking it if I bang it against something in the cockpit. My heart doesn't miss a beat if it gets soaked too.

G shocks are excellent watches for all things you are mentioning,

I bet your DD would love ā¤ļø the surprise gift of an all black Apple Watch!

My DS has both Apple Watch and G Shock. He likes all things dangerous and physically challenging šŸ˜¬
Surprisingly, his 2 year old Apple Watch is still intact and working properly. Maybe consider getting her a G Shock for Christmas if she expresses the need for itā€¦

Thank you ! Is just so hard to figure what to give them, specially as a plebe that canā€™t wear civvies.

I gifted our then soon to be plebe an Invicta watch that was recommended here by some sage folks @THParent The price was seriously inexpensive and the watch has outlasted two Garmins with tons of pool time and dips in multiple seas.

Son did say the ability to track and observe lap time was crucial to him.

Invicta watches last forever!! But since is her birthday I need something with a little more ā€œpunchā€

No @Capt MJ more punch, an unexpected surprise, something with the WoW factor in it!!! šŸŽ‚
Since you said ā€œher,ā€ then letā€™s go for nice real pearl studs or diamond studs that she can keep for ā€œbestā€ and wear for special occasions in uniform. Itā€™s only been within the last few years Navy finally added in diamonds (or CZ) to the gold ball studs that can be worn with most uniforms and the pearl studs with mess dress and full dress. They must meet uniform standards for size, color, style. See:

Perhaps a small jewelry case that travels well and fits in her con locker. I still have the monogrammed fine leather zipped and compartmented one I was given at my own commissioning. Hereā€™s a sample source below. There are luxury designer versions down to Walmart versions. Mine was from Mark Cross, and it is still serviceable after decades - it was THE big gift, though the monogramming is a little worn these days. Have fun googling ā€œfine luxury jewelry travel cases or rolls.ā€ Royce, Levenger, etc.

Is a gift for finishing Plebe Summer now a requirement?

I feel so ashamed :eek3:
I think itā€™s right up there with ā€œbaby moonsā€ and ā€œpush gifts.ā€

This is a birthday.
