Application Withdraw

My DS is still trying to decide what makes the most sense for him moving forward. He really wants to be a physician and is unsure that USNA is the best path for that. He submitted his application already but completing the BGO interview, Nomination and DODMERB are the only items remaining.

Quick question, when he clicks on "Withdraw" in his application portal it states "I have made the following decision regarding my offer of appointment, If you wish to accept your offer of appointment click to accept or decline" then goes on to say this is irreversible and that his spot will be given to someone else and give your reasons for declining. I imagine this is just standard language when one goes to withdraw their application or a bug in the system?

.
My advice is to let the application process play out if becoming an Officer and serving in the Navy or Marine Corp is something that is of interest to your son, and not because someone else is/was steering him toward applying to the Academy.

Btw .... Your son shouldn't push any decline buttons right now .... Thousands of applicants start and never finish the process. It's normal.

If he wants to withdraw his application, he should send an email to his Admissions officer. But once you do that, it's hard to reopen it, so to speak.

Agree that there is no harm in letting the process play out. He has many months to pull his application.

Lots of threads on this forum about becoming an MD via USNA or outside of it. He should read them.

Agree with the others to keep going just in case. Plus it is good practice to interview with the BGO for other interviews he will have in the future.

You should find out how to become an MD via USNA. As far as I heard from my son, c/o 2024, it's pretty competitive. One drawback of getting accepted into SA is that it fogs your decision-making due to financial factors. It's very hard to compete with a free college.

I can assure you it is not free. How many college kids owe 5-10 years of their lives post graduation in service to their country? They don’t get to change their minds and walk away after two for seven.

Walking through Memorial Hall will leave an impression on you. It damn well should. I can’t get through that place without crying and thinking of the sacrifices. No, they didn’t have college tuition debt, but our country will always owe a debt to those who serve.

The "like" button seemed to be broken, it only registered once when I clicked it about 100 times.
