Applying to Both academies

I'm sure the OP meant no disrespect to the other academies and was perhaps a little hasty in typing the title. "Applying to Both USMA and USNA" would have probably been a better choice for the title, but I got the point. I certainly have no business critiquing, with the number of typos I make.

I would fail an old school type test. Does anyone know what that is?

I forgot the “home” keys….my fingers wander
And I use my thumb most often on my phone to type. Then of course there is voice texting which is hands free. I have yet to figure out how to change the language for my phone.
When I voice text it always seems to print in a different indecipherable language….

It never ends. You should be a lawyer if you are not already.

With all the time you spend speaking on behalf of others and stating what their intentions are, you should at least get paid for it.

It’s because people hop on here and tear apart each other, which is wrong, ESPECIALLY CANDIDATES! It’s honestly embarrassing.

Why can’t everyone just be nice, kind and extend grace to one another?

This is a place to get help. Not be tore down for a misplaced “to”, or comma, typo, ‘I didn’t type what my mind meant to’, etc. We ALL know what the OP meant. And if you want to call them out on a public forum? I think that’s awful. Especially to KIDS seeking advice. IMO, send them a private note if you feel like tearing someone apart. Including this post. There seems to be a thing with your aversion to this particular poster, in several threads. Take it to A PM. This isn’t the place.

Not even close to the whole story with @brewmeist, but thanks for the concern!

If you're interested in both academies, then you should apply for both. Especially given that academies have different medical waiver authorities, I think not going all-in for one might be wise (unless you're certain you have clean and clear medical history in which case you should said through DoDMERB without having to worry about waivers). It's possible to ultimately get medical clearance for one academy, but not another. Just a thought.

Many candidates apply to more than one SA. Some apply to all 5. HOWEVER, you should carefully consider whether a particular SA and service is right for you. As a general rule, someone who really wants to fly jets or drive submarines won't be happy being in the US Army. Likewise, someone who wants to go infantry probably isn't a great fit for the USAF.

Obviously, career choices can -- and often do -- change. That said, each service has a primary mission and it's somewhat unlikely that someone who hates being on the water will suddenly develop a strong desire to be a Coast Guard officer.

Don't be "afraid" to explain your choices (to MOC nom committees or others) in terms of applying / not applying to certain SAs. For example, it's fine to say, "I really want to be in a sea-based service so I'm only applying to USNA, USCGA and USMMA." Or "My current desire is to be an infantry officer, so I'm applying to USMA and to USNA so I could hopefully become a Marine."

The idea that you must be wiling to serve in any branch of the military is . . . IMHO . . . nonsense and often leads to people being very unhappy where they end up.

I will take the risk and agree with this post. Over the years that my husband and I have been reading (and lately posting), we have felt that there is far too much undeserved criticism, especially toward new members or toward kids who are just trying to find answers to their legitimate questions. There are very few places to go to find the sort of information and advice that is available here, so we should try to make this forum a welcoming place and encourage people not to be afraid to post.

Just Remember. There are many paths if you want to serve.
