Appointment Notifications

How long before a candidate with a complete application and a nomination will receive notice of an appointment?
Also curious about the same question. Does an LOA make any difference? Also, is an appointment before the end of the year possible?

Thanks!

Yes it’s possible, but there is no way to know when you will be notified. Most candidates do not know until March. Keep
Your head up and just be patient, I know it’s hard. Btw if you have a conditional LOA, and have been nominated and medically qualified. You’re done. Keep your grades up, don’t get in trouble, and wait for indoctrination!

The range is wide and varied. No way to guess, predict, cajole, wish or bribe for a prediction. Our son during 2024 cycle completed all components of application by October 13. No LOA. He received the call with appointment on January 15.
Others on this forum waited to come off of the wait list until early June immediately prior to IDay.

This is the best practice you will ever have for waiting. Waiting for the armed services to decide. Waiting for a duty station , service selection, change of either of those. This being described as a Marathon is an understatement. Also this is good practice for lowering expectations for gratification that is timely or communication that is quick.

Hang in there.

Also, just reread the OP post. At each academy every year, more candidates receive nominations than receive appointments.
In our son’s cycle over 4900 received nominations to USNA. Only @1198 received and accepted appointments. A many pronged goal for sure.

As stated above, appointments can come as early as now and as late as June with just hours to make a decision after deposits have been put down on Plan B school. LOAs are not a guarantee, people with LOAs have been left without an appointment in past years, LOAs are nice to have but the goal is an appointment. Only the appointing authority may know when you will receive an offer. They have a lot going on, kind of like juggling. Best of luck to you all as the list is formed.

If I received an LOA and all requirements are fulfilled, can they still say no? What is then the point of the LOA? And did you get an LOA prior to your appointment? Thank you

Nothing is 100% until you have the offer of appointment in front if you.

If you have an LOA (and most SA cadets and midshipmen do not get one), fulfill every requirement including having a nomination AND do not indulge in axe-murdering, really inappropriate social media or get caught in other grave misconduct, do not have a medical obstacle pop up (you have to report any updates to your medical history for illness or injury even after you are DoDMERB-qualified), you should receive an offer of appointment.

LOA recipients without noms have indeed not received offers of appointment in the past, because the SA simply could not squeeze one out of its various sources.

The LOA is conditional on you fulfilling the listed requirements. If you do so, you will receive an offer of appointment. It’s those who do not fulfill the requirements that get the TWE.

P.S. Cross-posted with @Capt MJ. I leave all axe-murder references to her. 🤭

TMK, a "conditional LOA" does not exist as an LOA is conditional by its nature. As far as "LOA, nominated and MQ and you're done" - that is not a 100% given either as @Capt MJ said:

Just get your best app in, do well with your Noms and continue to work hard. Don't worry about the rest!

Well, we did have 2 murderers admitted to USAFA and USNA, no axes but a dumbbell and a handgun, somehow they failed to mention that in essays and the “anything else you want to mention” section of the applications. [For the baffled, look up Diane Zamora and David Graham.]

Based on the thread from the class of 2025, they seem to do about 25% in each month of Feb, Mar, and Apr. The remainder of the class is trickled throughout the other months (Sep-Jan and May, Jun).

From the three previous years’ appointment list, Foundation preps started to appear around April timeframe.
