April AROTC Board

Still no change in DS's status on the CC website. DS officially declined his admission offer to UofA Tucson and enrolled at our local school, CSU San Marcos. So...after almost 9 mos. of waiting on the AROTC scholarship, we're going forward with a local school & DS will reapply for AROTC next year.

I'll still be lurking on this forum, and of course still checking the CC website from time to time, but we've moved on. Good luck, everyone!

Mel2001, was your DS not able to get Arizona to extend the deadline?

Again, my DS has called all 12 schools this week, and all were willing to delay - only one (Purdue) put a hard-and-fast May 15th response time on it.

We've seen a LOT of schools push back their application deadlines - son's #1 school pushed their deadline from Feb 1st to April 1st to (now) May 7th!

Best wishes, I know how excruciating the wait is (we still are...).

Well, CC did say that they were "hoping" to have the results by Friday-
working on getting more info.

Although, I do like Mel's approach don't think son is ready to give up on this possibility yet.

UofA does extend the deadline, but it was a matter of out-of-state tuition that was the deciding factor. Plus, I did talk w/the PMS at UofA, and there was no guarantee that DS was going to get a scholarship. So, we decided to play it safe and enroll DS locally, which is still a good school.

IMO, DS had the GPA & SAT scores for all the schools he applied to, but I don't think his extracurricular/sports were enough to bump his overall scholarship application score. But, he still wants to do AROTC, and we'll be able to easily pay the in-state tuition.

This has been a very stressful process to go through, so I'm relieved that a final decision was made & we can now have tangible results with going through the local state registration process!

We are pretty much in the same boat you are. DS had the academics and leadership, but not the school sports (sadly, four grueling years of marching band under a drill sergeant-like director doesn't count), so we're not banking on anything. If it comes through it'll be wonderful, but if not, he can try again next year.

He's still going to enroll in ROTC regardless of whether or not he has the scholarship. Having tuition covered and the monthly stipend would have been a really nice thing, though!

I agree that having made a decision to move forward has been somewhat liberating!

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Spoke with CC today. No results yet. :frown:
Couldn't give me anything in terms of a date.
They are still waiting on confirmation letters from previous offers. ?
So, she said just keep calling.

Daughter took a PT test and 2nd interview on Sat 1 May at the school of her choice, all went well and this is for a campus based scholarship IF the National board falls thru. Was told she is now put on the schools order of merit list (OML) and she will receive either a 3 or 4 year scholarship from the school:smile: We are praying that she receives a 4 yr national or 4 yr campus based scholarship, the 3 yr would be great too, just have to scramble to get student loans for that 1st year. Should know something in about 10 days.
Thanks and good luck to all....:thumb::smile:

kydad-that's what we are going to do too.
Headed to #1 school first week of June to do school orientation and PT/interview with PMS. Then will be placed on PMS' OML for campus scholarship-no guarantees yet.
Seems like most of us are going through with back up plans at this point and not counting on hearing from the April board.
CC did say something about them waiting to hear from confirmation letters before posting results.
It would still be nice to get the 4-yr through CC.

kydad and plmmar, same situation here. Got DodMerb letter saying "Qualified". 1st choice school told son will get campus-based "if for some reason 4 year CC scholarship doesn't come through". Son did get partial academic scholarship at 1st choice out of state school which will help if we are still scrambling a month from now.
Good luck everyone:)

Just thought I'd update this thread by saying DS's status still hasn't changed and he still hasn't received an AROTC scholarship. I'm also just trying to maintain a sense of humor...!

Advice for us still waiting; Keep an open and good relationship with your contact at CC and also at the school of choice. Emails, phone, visits, texting, whatever it takes, keep that line of communication open. Just wanted to share my thought with the forum.

Good thought kydad. I was just thinking this morning that it might not be a bad idea to let PMS know ds is taking 6-AP exams between this week and next.
We previously let him know that ds is in training for a marathon (personal goal).

Sure has been (relatively) quite on all these forums the past week or so....

NROTC responses from the final Boards of the year seem to be back - haven't heard many acceptances, just a few "not selected" responses.

Anyone have any more news about when AROTC answers from their final Boards will be out? Last word I had was perhaps this week, perhaps next....anyone know any more?

Congrats to all those who were awarded, & best wishes to all those (like us) still waiting.

I agree-real quiet.
Plan to call tomorrow to get an update.
I'm beginning to wonder if they plan to make any more offers. I guess I'll have to ask that question.

We met with the enrollment and scholarship officer at Western Illinois yesterday which is the school where my son was offered a 3 yr. AD campus based scholarship last week.
This was a school that was taken off my son's list back in November but they still had him in their radar. Anyway, he told us they were waiting for the March offers to respond and see how many scholarships were left to offer. He thought it would be next week. He said even the colleges don't know who and when the offers will go out. My son did accept the scholarship after visiting the campus and talking with the ROTC dept. as well as the law enforcement professors. We feel very honored. After accepting the scholarship they also offered him room and board and the first year tuition through a state scholarship. Now, the physical exam!

While it isn't the warm weather that he was hoping for, I'm glad your son found a school that he liked that could accommodate the financial situation for you. Congratulations on a job well-done. :thumb:

Congrats knkwi-
Glad the school was able to kick in the extra year for you and thanks for the information.
Well, one thing is for sure-we'll all know what our status is by the end of the month.
I should be stressed but I've got peace about it.
It's funny how we ended up being at the end here in spite of our best efforts. Course it all started with the not receiving the interview, pt, etc etc and that taking forever to figure out if they had it or not-I think most of us can identify.
But we've still got options if CC doesn't offer so we'll be okay.
Sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride-it's just a matter of time now.

April Board Status

Cadet Command status says contact the PMS at the school of choice for an interview. Is this a standard message? The asst. PMS hasn't returned a call or responded to an e-mail. For the record, my son previously had an interview wi. the PMS in our home state.

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

I can't recall reading about that message in prior posts. Perhaps there are some new status messages being used since this is the last board.
