April AROTC Board

Thank you. It's been a week, and STILL no list of schools. B U U U U T . . .

Got the call yesterday from #1 school and he was offered a 4 year scholarsihp! I can breathe now!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad that it all worked out and that the information you received last month was wrong.

Found out today no scholarship but its most likely because I got all my info squared away about a week before the April board. So just got to reapply next year i guess.

Anxiety Revisited

I've posted before that DS did NOT get a scholarship offer and we went forward w/Plan B. He's enrolled at a local state university and is now considering the Marine Corps PLC.

Just when I was mentally closing the door on AROTC, DS got a call from USC Trojan Battalion earlier this week asking if he was interested in AROTC and attending USC this Fall. AAAAGGGGGHHHH! That just opened up all of that anxiety in me again!

I called a USC counselor for our area to look into this before DS applied online, who told me that USC is FULL for incoming freshman this Fall, but that DS would be a "viable transfer student" for the Spring 2011 semester. The other schools in Trojan Battalion are CSU Long Beach & CSU Dominguez Hills.

This goes to show you that NOTHING is really over until it's over, lol!

Mel2001, that is a fantastic opportunity and you should definitely follow-up on it! USC has a terrific ROTC program and it is not an easy school to get into. So if the ROTC angle would give your son a leg up on a Spring admission, go for it. My husband gained his commission there 30 years ago and my oldest son is currently a student there (alas, not in ROTC, though). That scholarship would be worth around $40,000 a year. Not too shabby!

Thanks for the info, CadetMom! DS is interested in transferring, so hopefully this is something that will work out for him!

Checked the mail today to find a letter from the Head of Scholarships at my school and I have received a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship.

Only thing is on the form it says I received a 4-year high school scholarship and I have no idea what that is. haha.

It just means that you applied for the scholarship while you were in high school, rather than going to the college and applying for a campus scholarship after already being in the program. same thing as 4-year army rotc scholarship.

Great news Mel! What a great phone call to get.
Definitely choose USC.:shake:

Will wonders never cease?
That's great.
You don't have to wait until next year.

Wish us luck-
In two weeks ds goes for orientation and will compete for a campus scholarship. He's hard at work-hoping to max out his PT.

I'd say his chances are good but until we get the official nod from the LTC....
The trend has been good news so hopefully we'll be able to post a success as well in a few weeks.:shake:

My fingers are crossed!

I just checked the CC website for the first time in about a week this morning and noticed it had changed to the DODMERB statement, I was just wondering how long it usually takes for the DODMERB letter to come and how long it takes the CC website to change to which of my selected schools are offering scholarships? (will be attending number 1 pick with or without a scholarship).

Thanks

It usually seems to take 1-3 days for the portal to update to show the schools. However, since this is the end of the annual process things might be different. Before, it would take about 1 week from the DODMERB portal update for the letter to show up.

I have this problem too... Except mine has been about a week and a half and it hasn't changed from DODMERB to the schools list and I haven't got a letter in the mail... I'm worried I didn't get the scholarship or something now... This has been the most drawn out, stressful, and complicated process ever. Good luck on your scholarship though!

ours (and by ours, I mean my son's ) status changed two weeks ago and still no list of schools except that last week #1 school called to offer scholarship, I'm sure I've already posted that. We went ahead and scheduled eye dr and physical (got the names and numbers off dodmets website) and both are finished. A week ago we got a letter from Concorde with drs names also. Still haven't received anything from CC. Called #1 school on Friday and they said they sent out scholarship info, but it's been over a week and nothing yet.

burton-try this lady at CC
she emailed me back very quickly with the response to my question.

CC will be sending us all letters. It's just nice to know now so we can move on with other plans.

Apologies if this has been answered already, but....

- status page STILL says "you have been selected for an interview"
- PMS says son was NOT chosen in the April Boards
- I wrote Ms. Wright (above) 2 weeks ago, but have not yet heard back

Still trying to find campus-based scholarships. And can anyone confirm that my son could re-apply to the national program next year, if he doesn't take over 30 hours of college coursework & doesn't join the ROTC detachment at any school?

Thanks, and best wishes to all!

I don't think so. The four year scholarship is for "high school students" from what I understand.
