Are visits allowed

Our DS in on the yard for summer school, and he was watching tourists observe noon formation today so they are out and about in approved areas on the Yard. Our DD flew in tonight for her first trip to the East Coast and DS will be her tour guide all weekend.

I’m going to be up in the area and was wondering if I can just drive on and walk around some.
You can’t drive on without proper credentials. Are you military/retired military? DBIDS? If not, you can go through as a visitor through the pedestrian gate. During hours. As of July the ‘Yard is open’ to visitors. Details here:

I was just there a week ago and we drove right in with DOJ credentials. Not sure how it easy it is without creds though.

I haven't been in awhile. Maybe I'll wait until football season. When the leaves change. When the breeze off the Severn is cool, not swampy.
After Plebe Summer and Protramid, I swore I would never visit Annapolis in June - August again. I did with BGO training about 20 years ago, and even with AC in the 'Hall it was miserable. I visited Norfolk a few years back for a Classmate's retirement and Norfolk was even worse !

You should try living in Houston Texas-now thats humid and hot.

I’ve been in Northern Virginia 23 years. Been to Panama. Been to Liberia. Lived in Jacksonville Fl three years. Somebody tried schooling me in humidity once when I said the DC area has a distinct kind of humidity.

He started with, Humidity is the measurement of the moisture… blah blah.

Not what I’m talking about genius. When moisture gets socked in here it stays forever and weighs you down like walking on the bottom of a heated pool while wearing a sweater. I think it has to do with our location between the mountains, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Atlantic. The wet air has no place to go.

A rite of passage for young government staffers back in the day: Walking from your parking spot or Metro stop to the office — in full suit and tie — in the middle of a D.C. summer while trying to maintain dryness and decorum. Even at 8 a.m., good luck! And if you went outside for lunch….

Many things I miss about living in D.C. That’s not one of them.

USNA has resumed most of its normal “settings.”

Unless you know you can drive on, you will park your car in Downtown Annapolis (DTA) and walk in through one of the ped gates at Gate 1, where you will show photo govt ID such as driver’s license, military ID or passport, and go through bag check.

Turn right to head to the re-opened Visitor Center. Film, maps, guided and self-guided tours, swag store.

You’ll walk through the Yard to visit those places open to the public: Bancroft Hall (the dorm - the Rotunda, Memorial Hall, model midshipman room), the Chapel, the Museum, can’t recall what else right now.

Wear comfortable shoes. Uneven old brick walkways.

Eat your way through DTA - many good choices - or - enjoy the ambiance of the Drydock grill and snack bar in Dahlgren Hall not far from Gate 1.

I must laugh. Elementary school years were split between Edwards AFB and Plant 42 in high desert of California. Also had a few adventures in region when days were in 100's and nights were in upper 30's once advancing in elevation. Common comment was "at least it is a dry heat". Was puzzled by that until travel to areas with high humidity when comment became very clear:p
