Hi all - I received a 3 year scholarship for army rotc. I put USD (university of San Diego) and SDSU (San Diego state university) on my schools of intent, but only got the scholarship to USD. Because of financial needs and major of interest, going to SDSU would work way better for me. Because these schools are in the same battalion, would it be a problem to transfer schools? Also, is there a deadline to transfer schools? I’m still waiting to hear back from nrotc so I’m not sure if I want to accept this scholarship yet.

We are doing the same. There are instructions in the AROTC portal under Additional Information > Accepting Scholarship and Transfer Requests

Accept the scholarship. You are under no obligation by doing so.

Call the NROTC unit for guidance. I'm sure they can shed much light on this.

We are in the same boat here our ds just received a 3 year rotc scholarship but not to Virginia tech which is the only one he was accepted too. We have just started the transfer process if we hear anything I update

Same here! Entering transfer request today. Does anyone know how long it might take to hear an answer?

Hi Ranger1015,
My DS's AROTC transfer took less than one week but times may vary. His was a transfer to a larger battalion/program and a less costly college, so that might have been a factor as well.

Our son put in his transfer request on Tuesday this week and received confirmation of his request on Wednesday for him it was really fast this is for va tech

My son is a MS-1 at USD. If you want to PM me you can. I can give insight into both schools. SDSU was also on my sons list. Did you get Fin. Award from USD yet? ROTC scholarship credentials make you very competitive for Alcala, Trustee and Presidential scholarships from USD and when paired with ROTC make for more than a full ride. My DS also go grant later after his Alcala that he didn't need. Bottom line if you got a ROTC scholarship you may have money coming from USD. You should accept scholarship now though. You have quite a bit of time to transfer afterwards. My son got quite a few contacts AFTER he got scholarship from AROTC.

just to confirm, Accepting the scholarship does not commit to anything, right? It simply documents the intention to accept, but if my DS decides not to enroll in the college or do ROTC, he can do that without obligation, correct?

If you accept the scholarship, it means you are accepting the scholarship. Simple as that. Now, if you don’t enroll in school or show up for ROTC, then you forfeit the scholarship. If you do use the scholarship, you can walk away before the start of Year 2 with no obligation.
