What the ROO said to me, was that they have the in house board which is at the brigade level, and that comes into effect the exact same way as the other 3 year winners. No scholarships are automatic for passing the 1st year, you can go all the way to MS4 and still not have a scholarship. Some people just don't pick them up ever.If you are not awarded a 4 yr or a 3 yr from National, are the 3 yrs given out at the Battalion level for Sophomores after their freshman year or before their freshman year. Is it sort of a 'guarantee' that if you pay for your freshman year, and pass your 1st yr cadet training that they pay for the next 3 years, or do you participate for a year and are THEN offered the 3 yr after the fact? Did I say that right?
The question is, do they offer the brigade level 3 yr scholarship before the freshman year, or after the freshman year? I understand that in either case it only pays for years 2-4.What the ROO said to me, was that they have the in house board which is at the brigade level, and that comes into effect the exact same way as the other 3 year winners. I believe that's different for every brigade. Some happen this September, others happen at different points. Either way, be prepared to do exceptionally well on the APFT. Your best bet is to ask the ROO at whatever school you plan to go to.The question is, do they offer the brigade level 3 yr scholarship before the freshman year, or after the freshman year? Can not do well on the APFT until after the freshman year, so if that is the deciding factor, then they must only offer them AFTER theI believe that's different for every brigade. I think most of this is battalion specific. I can tell you our experience. My DS enrolled in AROTC and was awarded a 4 year campus based scholarship in November of his freshman year, he contracted the first week of December. He received a book allowance and stipend that December. The tuition and fees that we had paid the college were reimbursed to us. If your DS is awarded a 3 year scholarship I believe he would contract the beginning of his sophomore year after he successfully passes an APFT. Then tuition and fees are paid going forward and he would receive book allowance and stipend. If you are not awarded a 4 yr or a 3 yr from National, are the 3 yrs given out at the Battalion level for Sophomores after their freshman year or before their freshman year. I apologize. Again, I was told that although the cadets work at it all year long, that the actual appraisal is done at the conclusion of their sophomore year. Please educate me further. Not sure what you mean by this. Why do you think a cadet can't do well on the APFT until after the freshman year?
All cadets, even those not on scholarship take the APFT during their freshman year. If a non scholarship cadet shows up on day one and cranks out a 270, they will put themselves in a great position for an opportunity to receive a scholarship. If that cadet continues to improve during their freshman year they have an even better chance providing they keep their grades up.
Campus scholarships can be offered at anytime. They can be offered before school starts, at the start of school, they can also make offers starting the second semester of the freshman year. The scholarships can range from 4 year, 3.5 year, 3 year, 2.5 year and 2 year, depending on when they're offered

I'm actually growing kind of fond of the waiting. Something incredibly humbling about it.

^^ Couldn't agree more.Well, this waiting is definitely better than the waiting we were doing last week!

Not to burst your bubble, and perhaps you are already aware, but taxes will be due on that R & B money. Just don't want you to be surprised, but still a great deal. Wish we had that deal.DS was awarded a 4yr scholarship to Kent State! With merit scholarships for tuition and fees and the ROTC scholarship for R & B, we will owe $12.00 a year. We are quite happy to pay $48.00 for a great education and a wonderful leadership opportunity. Now we are anxiously waiting for the official letter so we can accept the offer.
Yes, we are aware that Uncle Sam won't let us get off that easy. At least it will be spread out over 4 yrs.Not to burst your bubble, and perhaps you are already aware, but taxes will be due on that R & B money. Just don't want you to be surprised, but still a great deal. Wish we had that deal.
