Army vs Navy 2022

I really enjoyed the game. I was right when I told my wife right after it happened: "That blocked punt is going to be the game winner".
It was good seeing all the MIDNs and Cadets having mando fun.

That game is why I love college football. Both teams rising to the occasion, emotion/pride creating game influencing plays, special teams making a difference, rivalry creating urgency but shared respect amongst the teams. Great game.

I adore this game, the whole atmosphere, the traditions, the everything. My parents met on a blind date at this game, it's the whole reason I exist. However, we've been season ticket holders for many years and I've watched Navy football for a long time and as many other football games as DH can possibly get away with. If you look at Army's schedule and Navy's, or the way Navy played against UCF, I gotta say I don't know why Navy plays this game so conservatively. They may rise to the occasion as players, I don't fault them. But Navy tends to play to the level of their opponent and this one was super frustrating, no thanks to the officials either, whatever that was!

ETA well, just announced Navy's coach will not be returning.... mixed emotions, but he sure loved those boys and gave a lot of good seasons to the school! New class won't get to be amongst the 'Men of Ken,' bummer...

It was a fantastic weekend!! It’s so much
more than only the game. We hit the Patriot Games, Pipes and Drums competition, and Tom’s of the festivities at the game. And I know for a fact, that there was even non-mando fun had 😂

I’m exhausted. And heading back home. First time in Philly. The history oozing from Central City really makes you stop and think about our great Nation. Standing where our founding fathers stood….indescribable.

We also toured our first battleship. A wonderful Navy Vet took us around for a private talk/tour. No words. She came to life for us. We spent 3 hours there, listening to stories and learning all about her. Wow.

Boston, we are headed your way next!!

I wish Coach Ken the best. He loved the mids, USNA and understood why they were N*ot College. Fair winds and following seas to a good man.

I loved that he always wore an authentic lei to Army-Navy and other important games, reflective of his own warrior heritage.

Question for those at the game. I was there for my first one and it lived up to expectations (obviously). I could not figure out who the young men were on the far ends of the sidelines. On the Navy side, they wore blue sweat shirts and gray pants and on Army's side wore black pants and camo sweat shirts. Were they recruits? Players not allowed to suit up? Just curious.

They are there in matching warm up type gear every game, generally right in front of our season ticket seats. I’ve heard sprint team (way too big for that), JV squad…. Is that a thing?, sometimes they are injured but not all. One time a football player’s dad told us they are the plebes (or mostly plebes) who “made” the team but they already have enough suit up on the roster so they are there watching, learning, and waiting for their turn. They practice with the team I believe. Seems the most logical so I’m going with that

Hmmmm... could be NAPS red-shirts?

After the game, did Coach answer why Navy did not go for 2 at the end of OT1? Having the second possession was a powerful position to be in and it conveys a sense of "we are taking the offensive here and going for it."

Coach Ken was one of the 1st people at USNA DW and I met. Nov 2021 we dropped DS of for CVW at Levy Center and walker over and watched the end of football practice and it happened to be service selection night. It was really a cool thing to see Coach sharing in that moment with the 1st Class players. We could see his love for those kids. DW and I were sitting and snapping some pics after and Coach Ken approached and asked if I was one of his player's parents (I'm 6'4" 280lbs). I laughed as my now Plebe (a HS XC & Track kid) is 6'2" but prob only 165lbs. When I said we just dropped off DS for CVW he was super nice and welcoming and spoke glowing of USNA. He took a pic with us and told us to enjoy our visit. DW and I were moved that the Navy head football coach would take the time and chat with a couple of nobodies like us.
He was a great ambassador for USNA and a great 1st impression of the people at USNA.

Good Luck and thanks to him.

This may be a capstone to this thread. Laura Hatcher, CAPT, USN (Ret), USNA ‘92 was an official photog this year. She is now a woman vet small business owner of a photography studio in Alexandria, VA. Go enjoy her website - she does a lot of military events, along with career headshots, etc. Fascinating jump from her Navy designator to this career!

Have fun trying to pick out your mid or cadet!
