AROTC 3rd Board...Place to Wait

Sorry to read that you all received no updates Friday, 4/3.... yes, it just plain sucks.

As Jcleppe pointed out, this is great practice for your hopefully long careers with the Army and ROTC and the numerous waits you will experience throughout - but for now, this just sucks...

Well, the most common reply my DS, MSIV commissioning 5/2/15 has used throughout all these ups, downs and turn yourself all around moments with AROTC is embrace the suck....always. It has sucked a lot thru his path and still some how its all worked out.

Have a blessed Easter - try really hard to enjoy the end of your senior year either way the scholarship pans out. Oh, and parents, please do have the drinks - lots of them, 'cause when it all works out you find yourself four years later trying to wrap your head around the fact your kid - baby boy or girl - is going to be an officer in the United States Army and responsible for the lives of a lot of other parents babies....pretty strong drinking might not be a bad idea ;)

Take care.

Not really, no. There's a couple thousand miles between here and there, and quite frankly, no one talks about it. I just meant about it being good Friday. Some places come to a halt, and some keep going as if it doesn't exist.

I would assume that over here it has more to do with what the colonialists set up 100+ years ago, but in the states I have no idea what would cause it.

I am seriously suprised that in the U.S. Christmas made the cut for being a national holiday, but there are no (time off) holidays during Easter. If anyone was off for Good Friday at Cadet Command, then they were on leave. I wish Good Friday would have made the cut years ago (because I know it wouldn't now), because as a Christian that is the day my Lord died for me. As an Iraq War vet, I recognize the sacrifice in that. Jesus took a bullet for me!

No updates on the portal so far BUT we received a letter from the school ROTC offering a 3 year Advanced Designee Scholarship today. Is this the "school based" scholarship that is talked about? I'm confused...... Now what happens?

mamamelton wins the first congratulations! Yay! At least some news has come through. :) sorry, I can't answer your question.

Maybe the school messed up and sent a confirmation letter before they were supposed to come out? From what my #1 school said, all the other boards have to happen once school starts, ie September. Maybe he was wrong, or maybe I misinterpreted what he said.

I would tell your son to call the Battalion that made the offer and get the particulars. Of course don't accept anything until the results come out from the final board. It could be that they are just committing early that they will offer him the scholarship should he not receive one from the National Board.

No matter what, it sounds like good news.

Thank you! I think it sounds like good news too. :) We will sit down with the packet tonight and try to make sense of it.
Good luck, everyone...

My son received a call on Thursday (02APR) from the PMS at the school he intends to attend informing him that he received a 3-year scholarship to another school (to which he wasn't accepted), but he should have no problem in converting it to the school he wants to attend.
But the portal still says "BOARDED"
So, like mamamelton, I'm a little unsure where he really stands.

It's as if they want to make the system as complicated as possible.

When is the DodMerb done with a three year scholarship? Prior to sophomore year?

It's sounding a bit like previous years where ROO's can see the preliminary awards on their system.

Battalions/ROO's are not supposed to be contacting applicants regarding offers they see on their system until Cadet Command has released the updates and sent the letters. Not all ROO's abide by this and every year there are a few that post on this board that they have heard from a ROO telling them what you just heard.

Just be aware that nothing is official until the letter is received, Cadet Command and the Army can make changes right up to the time they send the letters and update the status.

For the majority that have not received any phone call or letter from a ROO, don't fret, the vast majority do not do this and follow the rules.

Usually when this starts happening, the updates are soon to follow.

Still sounds promising though.

What the LTC said when I talked to him, was that they do it sophomore year. They all go up to the same physician in town (when their appointment is,) and do the DODMERB... I didn't push it any harder, but I assume that means that you don't have to do any work other than getting your medical files sorted out beforehand, and have them ready for when you need to do the test.

Hope it helps.

Hopefully they do it before the start of your sophomore year. You can't contract before Dodmerb is complete and your qualified. If you wait until the start of your sophomore year you will have a while before you can contract, start getting your Stipend, have your tuition paid, and receive your book money. You should have all your paperwork completed including your 104R and your Dodmerb ahead of time so you can contract right at the start of your sophomore year as long as you pass the APFT.

Who initiates the process? Is it you, or does concorde (or someone else,) contact you?

3 and 4 year national scholarships for freshman are done at time of notification, paperwork follows portal update with official command notification. Tells you schedule DODMERB w/in 5 days. Not know for college based, or already enrolled. Even for 3 year best to know asap if major DQ issue, or if waiver will be possible, even if not officially contract until Sophomore year, gives you time to work on medicals if needed.

Understand not give you much time with college May 1st deposit dates if your ROTC choice is different from nonROTC school.

That makes more sense than what I was told.
