DD still boarded. :(

Just curious, did anyone "tweak" their declared major in hopes that it would improve their chances of getting a scholarship?
DS did not tweak his major. He is thinking of switching from mechanical to civil engineering, but I don't think that would have changed anything. He is still going back and forth on the two.

I think that the army's push towards STEM majors definitely influenced some people's decision about what path they took for college. For me, it definitely helped me decide on Mechanical Engineering. Without the nudge in that direction I doubt I would have been able to make a decision.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great fit for me, but I don't know that I would have independently come to the same conclusion I did without the minor incentive. (Probably would have chosen a physics degree.) But either way it would have been STEM.

In an earlier thread, someone quoted figures that a PMS had told him. Does that mean that the guy broke a rule? Do the PMS s have access to it, or did the guy just make it up?

What figures are you referring to.

I certainly hope not, choosing a STEM major just to better your chances at a scholarship has proved for many to be a recipe for disaster.

The OML for the 2014 boards... I'll see if I can fine them.

Which Boards are you referring to?

The OML that I'm talking about is the one that shows what your individual place was on the list.

This is the same for the accessions OML, cadets used to know what number they were on the OML, Cadet Command does not release that information anymore.

Yeah, the post I'm referring to had the whole person scores as a reference. Something like 650 was the cutoff for board #1, 570 was the cutoff for board #2, and 550 was the cutoff for board #3.

Those are a guesstimate from what I remember, but someone in the thread said that the information was questionable because CC doesn't release that to the public. I'll find the post tomorrow, because it'd 2 AM here. Nothing good happens after 2.

SgtLee sorry to hear that DS wasn't selected. Did you do the whole log out and log back in trick? DS originally still said boarded but when I had him log out and go back in it changed. Best of luck to your son!
Thx. Turttlerunnernc and yes....have logged-in and out from multiple computers. Boarded........Now time for plan bravo.

Good luck with your plan B. I'm on my plan D right now, amazing how what you expect to happen almost never does.

Be sure to tell us if he picks up one on campus.

Since the maximum Whole Person Score is 1400, I highly doubt that any cutoff was as low as the numbers you listed. It's possible they were talking about minimums to meet the boards but I don't think that information will be officially released.

Everyone is always way to concerned with what a cutoff number will be. The cutoff number is just simply the score of the last person selected, that will change from board to board and from year to year. There is no pre selected cutoff number.

Sorry for the "kiss of death" comment and no I did not find your response harsh at all. Trying to learn as I go and your input is greatly appreciated. Will have to check DS application site (of course he has a track meet tonight, so that will be a painful wait). Can you offer guidance related to "phase 2" as you described it...

Thank you for your feedback.
iif you don't get a national offer phase two should be to decide on a school, let the battalion know you are coming and you are planning to enroll in ROTC and you are interested in competing for any future scholarship opportunities. Show up to campus physically fit, ready to work hard in the classroom and ready to participate in Army ROTC. Phase 2 involves being ready to fund most of the college cost. Phase 2 should also include considering the SMP program if cost is going to be a major issue. The National Guard or Army Reserves can provide some help paying for college.

Do you see any issues in the future for SMP cadets accessing to Active Duty

If some people decide not to accept their scholarship offer, will other people be selected to get it from the OML?

My son's portal shows no status whatsoever. It never has. Not "boarded", not anything. Is something wrong?

DS received the 4 Year scholarship- thank you much for the information today and the pep talk.

It's a little after0 03:00 AM in the morning. My DS just discovered he was looking under the wrong tab in the portal. Each time he logged in throughout the evening and night he was met with a blank screen. There were no words like "boarded" or "winner" - just an empty screen. We had all but given up hope. Just mopping around with disappointment and sorrow. After he fumbled around looking under the different tabs, he learned he was actually a scholarship winner. His options are the University of Houston, Rice University, and Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, he wasn't accepted to his first choice (Georgetown U) but we're thankful for what we can get. Man, talk about an emotional letdown and then sudden high.

We were wondering the same thing. My DS just recently found out that the university battalion representative he was working with was not the decision maker that he represented himself to be, and in fact we have documented proof that he may have left my sons information off the university server.
As BC of the local AJROTC unit, with a 2150 SAT, he immediately contacted his AI with copies of the emails in hand.
The man had a coniption when he read them. Considering he used to BE one of the staff at the university in question, and had personally called the Colonel who personally did the interview (as a courtesy).
He says he will call whoever he can this weekend, but I am reasonably concerned that there is nothing ANYONE can do once CC has made and published the final offers.
After 4 YRS. in JROTC my DS is now considering simply accepting regular merit and need based scholarship opportunities and dropping from the program that he has given so much of his time and that failed to give him back what he earned. I don't agree, but I do understand his frustration.

I wish I knew. I hope not, but we are going to have a GRFD mission in the future, and some Cadets are probably going to be given a GRFD "take it or leave it" offer. I talked to a prospect for the fall who kept mentioning the guard or reserves. That's the new needle in the haystack all us ROOs will be looking for.
