AROTC Advanced Camp 2023

Isn't Land Nav about topos and compasses? As opposed to spotting a grain elevator on the prairie and walking to it.

I guess they never saw The Flight of the Phoenix, the one with Jimmy Stewart. Cross reference the Best movies ever thread.

Cheating to get a better MS IV position. That's just plain stupid. Just ask the E-8 with three tours in Syraqistan, who is one step below you in your future COC. I mean the real one.

Normally, but the forests of JBLM are a thick untamed wild. Much different than most of the country.

Excellent movie

How can an ROTC cadet be allowed to continue towards a commission as an officer when caught cheating?? I mean isn’t “integrity” one of the core values of the program? I suppose since West Point is now allowing “do-overs” for cheating in academic tests, AROTC is now allowing same. However, it seems inconsistent to allow a future officer to cheat and then repeat….I would have hoped they learned better in grammar school….

We don’t know if they are continuing or not. None of the information I have read across the internet has been consistent, with the exception of 127 cadets were found to be cheating. I’ve seen posts ranging from the cadets were sent home and won’t be able to enter the army and have to pay back scholarships, to they are still there and finishing up. Even the people at camp right now seem to be getting different information. I’m guessing the only ones who know right now are those who are impacted, either as a cadet or as an ROTC program.

DS has been there since June 4th as OPFOR. Loving his platoon and bonding experience.

He had just finished up Air Assault May 23rd, so OPFOR has been a little less intense.

He hasn't mentioned anything at all.

Our DS is there this summer. So do the cadets get ample opportunity to qualify with the M4 Rifle? Are there recycles possible if someone is struggling? Just interested just in case. I haven't heard any bad news yet.

Are contracted MS1/MS2 cadets paid for OPFOR?

I use to haul butt between check points on Land Nav and find a rock and read my paperback book for some R&R in OCS for 20 minutes!

I thought maybe it would be useful to have a catchall thread for cadets/parents regarding this summer's Advanced Camp.

My son is currently there and forwarded something about a bunch of cadets (127 to be exact) in one of the earlier regiments supposedly getting in serious trouble. I'm inclined to attribute this to a species of the "telephone game," but I thought I'd see if anyone else heard anything about this. (If the message he sent is accurate, then it is kind of alarming.)
Does anyone have any further details on the timeline for Family Day? I know we meet them at the theater and they’re released at 12. What time do they have to report back? Do they have travel restrictions (distance from post)? Is a Branch Orientation also going on that day? Representatives from each branch with static displays, etc.?

I can tell you exactly what happened with our DD last year. We picked her up at Knox and drove her back to our hotel, where she proceeded to take the world’s longest hot shower. We then made our way to a local restaurant where she inhaled an uncomfortable amount of food. Then back to our hotel, where she passed out on our bed and slept until time to return her to post (I think it was 7:00, but not really sure).

That was our “Family Day”, LOL!

Love it.

Had a similar experience from a different school. We were not allowed to attend the graduation for Covid reasons. DS directed us directly post graduation to a Mexican Grocery, in full regalia, and ordered food for 10 people. We were only three.

Last year, I took my son and 3 of his buddies out to lunch. We went to the movies (I think they all fell asleep for some of it), dropped friends off, went back to the hotel and my son took a nap. Graduation the next day. It was a great experience.

I remember getting LDAC done around 10 years ago. I was 20 pounds lighter and extremely tan after! I had CTLT following camp which I really didn’t want to do but did it anyway. Sooo exhausted.

Had a flight out that night and as soon as I landed the cav scout unit made me take a PT test the next day…at a mile high elevation.

Fun times.

I keep hearing from people that they lose a lot of weight in Advanced Camp. Is that muscle, or excess fat mainly?
Because if muscle, that's going to be years of my gains gone lol.

I went a while ago and I’m sure they changed a lot of the course. I came out pretty shredded (first 6 pack in my life), but I’m positive I lost muscle and gained SI joint pain….

Yes they will work with her. They went to using Red Dot optics which is easier than iron sites.

The Civilian employees (all of them) at the DFAC are on strike and the cadets are eating MRE's all the time. Sucks for them!

  • Wow
Reactions: EJF
The last couple of days DS told me they didnt even have MREs for them, so they ordering pizzas on their own.

This was last week. ;-)
