AROTC Decision: Texas A&M vs VMI

Thank you for your advice, I am sure I absolutely could have done a better job. I have now done 8 different interviews; this was different. I do think speaking to someone in the program would be helpful. To be clear, I didn't bring up the LOA, I would never do that because it seems braggadocios and it is conditional, as you know. He asked me what my college options were. I didn't rank them or say one over the other. I was responding to his questions honestly. I am going down to A&M over the break. I have only learned about the Corps through their webpage and other online materials. I am interested in A&M because of that experience, besides being an excellent school. Like many other seniors participating in three sport seasons, getting time (we play over the break) to miss practice and games is tough, so I am trying to plan out my visits wisely with costs in mind.

I have not been to Annapolis since my Freshman year; I am going back this winter. As always, thank you for your advice and support.

I would posit that the biggest difference between A&M and USNA is that at A&M you won't be as restricted day-to-day as you would be at USNA. Really, it is the difference between being on active duty (USNA) or not (A&M/ROTC). Also, at A&M you will have significant contact every day with non-corps students; they will be the overwhelming majority of your classmates.

With the A&M Room and Board scholarship and your monthly stipend, I don't think the money will be significantly different either way.

Finally, might be worth talking to a member of the NROTC cadre at A&M vs a COC recruiter.
