As a senior in high school, I have had great success with getting A's and B's on the report card until now. This final semester, I suspect I may finish with two, maybe three C's on the transcript. Does having bad grades on your final semester impact you when you get to USMMA?

For some schools, I know that they make you write an essay or withdraw scholarships if you fail to maintain academic excellence. Is the same true for USMMA? To clarify, I am genuinely struggling in my classes as opposed to being infected with senioritis.

I can't speak from experience because my DS is an incoming Freshman but I can speak from what I have heard. The gentleman that presented my son when he committed to KP admitted he failed Cal 1 at KP. He went on to be named to their Hall of Fame. My understanding is that tutoring is readily available if u ask for it. You admitting now that u struggle indicates to me you should/would take advantage of the help. I hear Sea Year is a killer because mids lose sight of the educational aspect of that year and fall behind.

You will not lose your appointment as long as you are getting C's. I hope this struggle serves as a wake-up call for your Plebe year at USMMA. classes at USMMA are a huge leap up from high school for most plebes. Your classmates are all high achievers. Plus regimental duties and sleep deprivation like you have never experienced will take their toll. Once you get to KP, get help early and often before you fall too far behind. Good luck.

Exactly. I never really had to study in high school. . . but, man. It was a wake up call for me, let alone all of the other duties.

First trimester is a huge shock academically, but there are a ton of resources to help you pass. People usually fail for not catching up when they fall behind.
Staying awake in a class like physics is probably the hardest part about it.

After getting my appointment to the USMMA, I had a question regarding AP classes. While taking two AP classes my senior year(stats and calc) I was wondering if they will accept or even look at these scores and if they are even worth taking? Would love to hear some input! Thanks

My understanding is that if you get a 5 on AP calc, you MIGHT be able to exempt out of calc 1. But that may just put you straight into calc 2. You may prefer to retake calc 1 and have an easier time/get a better grade.

To make sure I’m right and to see if there’s other info that may help you, search online for the 2024 logging in book. There is a section in there about exempting classes.

PS I did still make my son sit for AP physics today. Nothing to lose and I already paid for it. He may not pursue getting an exemption, assuming he even gets a 5, but it didn’t hurt for him to take it and we’ll at least have options if he does very well.
