Best Company at USNA?

A hate chit is rare, but can happen. I know of 2 cases. In one case, it was the MIDN’s chain of command that submitted the hate chit to remove the midn from the company. The reasoning was they believed that the midn had been treated unfairly by certain upper class that tainted their reputation within the company. In this case, the CoC thought it best for a fresh start. The other situation is where the hate chit was submitted for an individual by the entire plebe class. It was approved by the respective CO after seeing that every plebe except for the one being hate chitted out had signed it. The hard part about this one is rumors spread through the academy like wildfire. So wherever they did end up was not a fresh start.

Wow! One must have to work exceedingly hard to develop this kind of all-encompassing rancor. The sad thing is, this mid was probably was “that guy” without the self-awareness to realize it and correct their behavior.

According to DD, the typical “that guy” usually…(any or all)

…talks about themself incessantly, especially regarding their pre-SA glory days.

…thinks only of their success and not the whole team’s.

…is an unsupportive, rude, inconsiderate roommate.

…half-asses everything from push-ups and pull-ups to watch duty and room cleaning.

…sees their parents’ high military rank as permission to lord over others (e.g. the kid of the “dadmiral”).

As they say: It takes only a few minutes to develop a bad reputation, but many years to get rid of it.

Or a few seconds to get a hilarious one. Daughter's roommate picked a flower on one of their first "excursions" and had to run with one all Plebe Summer.

Basic Training lasting for one year:eek:. Got to give all SA First Year a lot of credit.:usa:

I have been aware of 4 "hate chits" while I have bee a USNA. Here are the reasons:
1) Male midshipman being creepy around female midshipmen in company
2) Female midshipman socially alienated for making a sexual assault allegation that was proven false by text messages
3) Male midshipman was hate-chitted while he underwent a sexual assault investigation. He was later separated.
4) A midshipman physically assaulted their roommate.

This post is for fun, but I am also curious. At my alma mater, there was no Greek system, which bred a very big dorm culture. Each dorm had sports teams that would play other dorms and each dorm had a special thing they were known for in order to raise money for dorm activities. My dorm runs an annual haunted house for Halloween. Another dorm performs annual comedy sketches etc.

I've noticed that the 13th Company at USNA does the annual football run for the Army-Navy game. Does each Company have a special "thing" they are known for? If so which Company is the "best"?
Every company has their own tradition and things that make them their company. Truthfully I feel the best can't really be decided because you really only see the best of the company if you are in it. From an outside perspective you only hear the good or the bad of a company. Never both at the same time. Plus, Company culture changes with each new year of firsties.

. For example, every plebe in my company has 8+ weekends due to incentives the Battalion Officer handed out. Normally, plebes only have 1 weekend a semester.
My, how things have changed.....

33rd Herd… by far the best company. Oh wait… dating myself probably! 😂
Is there even a 33rd Company any longer ? I thought I had heard that USNA was pared down to 30 Companies.

WRT original post ....of course, the 7th Company Seadogs are the very best ! (or were 35 years ago !)

Seriously, Company cultures and reputations change, often with the change of Company Officer and SEL. I will say that back in the day, location within Bancroft Hall did make a difference. Some of the Companies that were farther from Battalion offices or upper decks had reputations as either more laid back or total hard a$$. They could be more laid back because the OOW paid less attention, or hard a$$ because no one was watching . 7th Company was on 5-0, the 2nd Battalion Office was right in the middle of our Company space, and OOW and Battalion Officers were always walking through. Still, my Company Officer 1st and 2nd Class years was a pretty cool USMC Major (a Mustang who didn't get to worked up about petty BS), so the Company was really good.

Nope, 30 companies since the mid-late 90s! As Plebes we rated a whopping zero weekends! We earned one for getting a cover on the chapel dome and no one knowing what to do after. So to kill rumors and other things, they gave us a weekend.

Agree on culture can change year to year. Location within Mother B does play into this. SEL/Company Officers also can play into this. I went from a very tough company to an "easy" company when shot gunned. I think company toughness matters more as a Plebe than anything.

This is so on target both in my experience and that of my son. I was in 2nd co 3-2/1-2 and he was on 6-3. Both of those locations were good in terms of being less in the line of fire. Wings 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the most part do formations on T-Court which is under a lot of eyes whereas the other wings tended to not have so many spectators.
I was much closer to the academic buildings and midstore while the even numbered wings are closer to Dahlgren, the field house and other athletic facilities. Walking into town is easier from them as well.

36>30 companies in 1995-96.

A DH artifact, circa 20th c. He enjoyed his plebe company (6) as well as his final company (24). Note the company motto, indicative of the swagger factor there, in somewhat iffy Latin. Name and class are on the back side.

Mine are not "fit" to be displayed in these more enlightened times. Actually, all of the company mug sales that I saw were individual midshipman "businesses" that would be run by one or two people and were technically illegal. Many were guilty of "glorifying alcohol" or other modern sin such as sexism, etc. When my father passed away I got back the mug I'd given him and had forgotten that the handle was in the shape of a woman (OK, a Barbie version) and this was clearly before women were admitted to USNA. Company T Shirts were also frequently skirting the edges of legality and propriety.

I'll just give one example - some folks that I know were in a company where the firsties made a bet/club to drink one hundred alcoholic drinks - beers, shots, etc during the period of Easter to Graduation of First Class year. Oh, I forgot to mention that all hundred had to take place within the bounds of USNA. There were T Shirts made to celebrate the accomplishment but wearing them prior to graduation was probably a bad idea.

😱 but not surprised…

Back in our day, I think it was Club 34 up on either 8-3 or 8-4. Not a lot of drive by traffic up there.

How does a BattO give out 8 weekends to plebes? A couple given as incentives makes sense…even if that is in more modern times…but I think 2/C had 8 base weekends when we were there. CaptMJ, I demand answers! 🤔😀

Some flexibility to make decisions is good…however if there is too much deviation from a common standard then that typically leads to problems.
