I just got appointed to the academy and I haven’t visited yet. I know a lot about service academies in general, but Air Force was my #3 service academy. However, I am still super excited to learn more and I will probably end up there! I’m just looking to learn some of the best things only unique to AFA. If it helps I don’t want to be a pilot at all and I am looking to do cyber while majoring in Comp Sci or some type of engineering.

Can’t beat the view! While that may seem trivial to the overall academy, if you can look around at something as simple as the view...mountains, sunrises and sunsets, and know that tomorrow is a new day despite how difficult today was, it can give you a moment of clarity and focus.

DS (usna) said that when he would struggle or get down during plebe summer, he would look around at the view, and give thanks that he is one of the people that was blessed to have that view.

Even if you don't want a flight career USAFA is unique in their airmanship opportunities - you can skydive, fly single engine aircraft and gliders / soaring. Outside the academy the recreational opportunities are endless for hiking, skiing, etc etc in the Rockies.

Visit if you can, DS went early April with acceptance deadline looming and it almost changed his mind.

DS also is looking into Cyber. We are planning to visit in April when they have the special tours for appointees.

#1: Mitch's;)
#2: 7,258 elevation makes for good fun during PE. Sea level is for the weak!
#3: Lots of parades so you're able to really perfect your marching style!

To go off from the SA for a moment, I think you will really like Colorado Springs. Denver is an hour's drive away so rock concerts, hockey games, etc. Lots to do in the Springs esp. outdoor stuff, also indoor rock climbing, & traffic wasn't bad considering I'm from NYC area. The left turns are 2 lanes wide! You always make the light! Definitely take up skiing if you don't already. The AFA rents ski equipment so all you'll need is a helmet & a season pass. Also famous winter defensive driving school located nearby the ski areas for which a 1 day class is a lesson for life. Came in very handy for DD. Check out USAFA's Cyber team.
P.S.: You should make an authorized visit which will allow you to spend the day with cadets thru their class day. You'll be there for 4 years so one wants to be sure it's a good fit. I know it's hard to tell from one day, but you'll get the chance to talk to cadets (esp. females) one-on-one which should get any questions/concerns answered. Below is a video that covers it all. Reason #5 is my favorite! Congrats & Good Luck!

This was the view at USAFA today.. much better view during the spring, fall and summer.. although, they have had snow as late as June and July some years.. the Dark days of winter are upon the cadets, for sureFB_IMG_1550911261774.jpeg
