Best Place to Eat on or Near the Yard?

Two of my favorite places that include pleasant DTA walks, and are not “the usuals”:

Potato Valley Cafe on State Circle. A hole in the wall with a few tables. Local and lawmaker favorite. A short stroll up from the Market House area via back streets to State Circle. You know you want a lovely baked potato with all kinds of good stuff piled on top. When I worked in an office in DTA, I was a regular.

Galway Bay on Maryland Ave. Be a Yard insider and walk out Gate 3, pretend you’re Harrison Ford in the chase scene from “Patriot Games,” stroll down Maryland Ave and duck into an Irish tavern for an eclectic array of Irish comfort food and modern takes. Adult beverage as desired. Again, off the beaten track. A winter favorite of ours. Maryland Ave. has some fun window-shopping.

I will take heat for this:

Mother’s Peninsula Grill - my son and his friends love their burgers.

Double T diner.

Over easy eggs > over medium.

Iron Rooster > Chick and Ruth’s.

CoMom26...You can't go wrong with any treats from the Amish Market. Get enough for several rooms of midshipmen because they will swarm to and share those treats.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Double T Diner as well. If you get the big breakfast ("Double T Breakfast Special"), ask them to substitute bacon for the sausage that they have. This way, you get double bacon (4 strips) and life is much better if you stay away from their sausage. Trust me on that one.

So many good places to eat in Annapolis....but I'm kinda old school, and have two must stops on any trip to Annapolis:

1) Middleton Tavern - probably not the best, but we almost always gravitate their for lunch, usually on the porch out front. The fireplace is also nice on a cold day !
2) Chick and Ruth's -- always for breakfast, but used to grab late night munchies as a Midshipman

I wholeheartedly recommend the Double T Diner as well.

If you're willing to drive way out of the way, Silver Diner is way better than Double T. IMO, Double T isn't much to write home about.

Galway Bay has a fantastic whiskey selection and is a little bit off the beaten path if you want to avoid rowdy mids. Galway Bay also pours the best Guinness in DTA.

Sorry, here’s Galway Bay:

We try to eat someplace new on each trip - last weekend we really enjoyed Julep but that is away from DTA. Look forward to trying some of the ones mentioned on this thread now!

For the CVW visitor: Treats would be unnecessary. Treats would be appreciated.

Suggest you keep any treats small and subtle. A candidate walking in with a box of a dozen donuts might be needlessly conspicuous.

Double T is a place to take MIDNs to toss a lot of groceries down their pie-holes.
It's not fine dining, but the people are nice.

Iron Rooster is always great
I'll 2nd the Iron Rooster! for DS CVW in November, DW and I went for dinner and it was reasonable priced and excellent! Have a variety including breakfast items for diner. For desert Wife and I had one of their home made hot "pop tarts" cinnamon apple topped with vanilla ice cream. 👍👍👍👍

We ate at Drydock for lunch which was convenient but was poor.
(I'm hoping it was due to covid staffing and setup, but it was one of the worst sandwiches I've had)

Not that I would recommend DryDock unless in extreme hangry mode, but IG post stated Dry dock would be closed so that staff could help serve the Brigade. At same time another post referenced Steerage re-opening (after being closed for 2 years?) for limited service with two Companies a night being allowed to partake. It also referenced Steerage re-opening I will inquire the DS next week as to the impact for him.

I did find it wildly disturbing that during the ROM Pre and Post Christmas, that MIDNs were forgoing KH because the food offering had gotten so bad and that they were spending $ at Dry Dock instead. Aren't KH and Drydock run by NABSD?

If King Hall is run by NABSD then that is a change. King Hall (government mess using government funds) is a wholly different animal from Steerage, Drydock, the Midstore and other activities that are "Non-Appropriated Funds" activities. From a management and compliance basis alone, I would keep them very far apart.
