Whether my DS receives the BFE or the dreaded TWE, his BGO has been an excellent source of encouragement, information and sanity throughout this process. I cannot thank the BGO enough and DS feels similarly.

Is it traditional, accepted or even proper to send the BGO some sort of token of thanks when this process concludes? If so, is there a traditional token that is given??

Will there be any sort of questionnaire issued by the Admissions Office whereby the efforts of the BGO can be officially recognized?

Good luck to all ...and may your envelope be big and fat...AND GET THERE ALREADY!!

I'm glad you had a great BGO.

A couple of things you can do. First, send a note of thanks -- an email or even (dare I say it) a snail letter. It is much appreciated. None of us expects anything tangible.

You can also contact your Area Coordinator (the "supervisor" of the BGOs in your area) and express your views. His/her contact info should be in CIS. BGOs can receive "awards" (they are non-tangible as well -- just certificates) and this helps the AC know whom to nominate/select.

I'm not aware of any questionnaire.

Hi, my DD's BGO was also unbelievably humane and helpful. We too were thinking the same thing-some sort of recognition regardless of the outcome. Where do we find our Area Coordinator? Thanks

If you receive a BFE contact your school regarding senior awards night. We have an evening presentation where seniors receive their scholarships and other recognitions. We cleared it with our school, and had our BGO present DS's appointment. His presentation was AMAZING! DS received a standing ovation--he was only the fourth student from our district to receive an appointment to a SA. I do believe most BGO actually enjoy that part of the process.

The AC may be listed on CIS. If not, Acs are listed in the USNA catalog, which is available on line at the usna.edu website. Your BGO also has the info. If you ask your BGO for it, please tell him/her why as otherwise your BGO might think you're going to complaint about him/her.:)

As an addendum: I always have considered presenting the certificate to successful candidates as the payoff for being a BGO. It is a great positive event for us as well as for the candidate and his/her family. It doesn't get old or routine. And as an Area Coordinator for several years, input from candidates and their families would be very welcome in evaluating the BGO's performance for the cycle.
