I am the parent of a Coast Guard ensign who recently graduated from the Coast Guard Academy. I just wrote a book called "Coast Guard Academy - A User's Guide" to help potential applicants, AIM-sters, swabs, cadets, and their families understand the academy. It's available on Amazon in kindle format and in paperback.

The book has information about how and why the Coast Guard Academy operates the way it does, and advice on understanding it and making the best of it. I included lots of pictures so that folks can get a sense of how campus looks.

I don't expect to make much money off this book. It's more of a labor of love to help out the new folks and pass along what I learned as a parent of a CGA cadet.

Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Coast-Guard-...t+guard+academy&qid=1623878815&s=books&sr=1-3

Hope you find it useful. I welcome comments, suggestions, and corrections.

I just read the sample and I am keen on purchasing the book version . Just a small suggestion that it is way too expensive for a paperback but I will think about it--my DS got waitlisted this year and we are going to reapply but nobody knows for sure what makes a candidate stand out

Sorry for the high price but that is dictated by Amazon’s minimum price. Hope you find the book useful, and best of luck to your son. Each person has a unique set of qualifications, and as I say in the book, there is not an identifiable standard that will guarantee admission. Play to your strengths, which hopefully will include soft skills such as teamwork and communication.

Hallelujah!! Someone who understands. I always
tell applicants to try and identify their unique selling point. Other applicants will have similar academics (some better, some poorer), other applicants with have similar Athletics (some better, some poorer). Try and identify the thing or combination of things that makes your application different from others and make sure you stress that in your application.
