C/O 2019 Mailbox Stalkers

D22,
I am willing to accept this mission! Sadly my mail lady got away from me today. There is always tomorrow right?

Is it correct to assume that USNA tries to get most decisions out before their Spring Break which starts March 20th? Also because the Ivies announce their regular decision acceptances on March 31 and a lot of the time are competing for similar students? This is our first time through this process....DS has a four -year NROTC scholarship to Univ of Penn but we don't know yet if he will be admitted there yet either. Lots of anxious waiting but so very proud of my son for his accomplishments in making it this far..Congrats to all the 2019 BFE's received !!!
In the exact same boat. Four year to GT and still don't know if accepted. Glad to know there are others out there.

Well Friday the 13th brought no news so that keeps us in the hunt.
I was actually hoping nothing came today as it's our 9yo son's b-day and I want the focus to be on him for the day.

There is always tomorrow.

Another day for me too and more junk mail. I’m starting to believe that this is a test of my will. It reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day. There must be cameras filming me running to the mailbox every day. Now I’m starting to question what happens if the USPS lost my BFE.
Optimistic until tomorrow.

Still no news here... but since I've been accepted to three of my backups already, they've been bombarding me with mail. Can I trade in those fifty pounds of mail for one BFE, please?? haha.
One half of me wants to call up admissions and ask if they've reviewed my application/when they expect to review my application (not necessarily mine in particular, but just the remainder; like an estimated reviewed/not reviewed percentage would be nice).
The other half of me says "Be patient and don't cause the admissions people any more stress than they already have; they might not even be able to or want to tell me these things." (And I also secretly fear that calling up could affect my admissions decision... which is probably a little irrational to think...)
And then my mind is constantly fluctuating between "I'm super confident! I'll definitely be at USNA come July!" to "Well, if I get the TWE, I have plenty of backups." I'm trying to stay positive, but at the same time I'm trying to be ready to face the reality of a TWE should I receive one.
This really is a roller-coaster ride.

Angie,
That is the right and healty approach-at least it's what has kept us calm...visiting schools, celebrating acceptances, looking at housing & contacting coaches... all while still hoping for the one piece of mail that changes everything...

Have plenty of back-ups, go full throttle into one of them if needed and enjoy the year.

USNA will still be there next year.

Another day, no news.

Dropped DS's deposit off at the post office for his plan B school, then came home and threw away a forest worth of college fliers, pizza ads, and random junk mail.

It's not too crazy of an idea to train my pup for mailbox stalking, is it?

Well, same here. I thought I read somewhere lots of decisions were mailed earlier in the week. I feel like I'm going crazy. DH casually asks everyday when he gets home from work if there was any mail today. We all know he's not talking about magazines, but casually reply, no. Poor DS has told us he decided to himself long ago that he didn't get in, so a sting won't be as bad at this point. But the dread on his face when we paid the deposit on his room and the orientation fees for his plan B said it all. He asked if we could please wait until the deadline to sign up. I reassured him that plan B needed to be reserved no matter what. Pure dread. Bless his heart. Maybe he will be lucky with BFE, maybe he won't. I guess we'll know soon enough. I hope everybody gets in!

Mom 529,
I understand the dread of the deposit to plan B. We went to visit plan B and I couldn't even ger him to look at dorms. It just felt blah and it is my Alma Mater and he would be 5th generation on my side to attend. Please don't give up hope yet. It is easy to get discouraged, but even if he doesn't get in this year, he will be a much stronger candidate next year. Almost all of those on the 2nd ride seem to indicate what seemed like a set back in the end was a great prep year.

You never know! He has a plan and it may not match with ours at the moment. We had pretty much ruled out USMA, assuming that would be the first TWE my DS would get, however today out of the blue he received a BFE from them. I think it is too early to give up hope! I am cheering for you!

Congrats!! It's always awesome to have a BFE, even if it is your "fallback" position!!

Got waitlisted at my plan B today which I have a four year NROTC scholarship to. Still no news from USNA, still in the waiting game, still stressed.

Thank you for the encouragement, nukepharm, and how wonderful to have a BFE to USMA. My son has two friends there and they absolutely LOVE IT. My DH keeps reminding me of HIS plan for our son, but sometimes I'm just blind and stubborn. Thanks for the kind words. I don't know how I would cope if it weren't for my forum friends!

Congrats on your NROTC scholarship. DS was not accepted to his Plan B to which he was awarded a NROTC scholarship last year. Many advised him to contact that school to let them know about the scholarship award -- the thinking was that they might reconsider him. He opted not to do that, but instead applied to have the scholarship transferred to his next choice, an in-state school for him. That's where he ended up. So, with your scholarship, you may want to consider letting your plan B know about your scholarship if you haven't already. Also, you might want to reach out the the NROTC unit at your Plan C to see how hard it will be to transfer the scholarship there if needs be. There was a waiting list for NROTC at DS's Plan B, but he made it into the unit. Of course, keep stalking the mailbox for that BFE!

I called and let them know as soon as I found out. Unit commander will be making a note of it in my file on Monday. The stalking goes on. Go Navy!

Another day, another trip to the mailbox and nothing. So the waiting game continues. The worst part is now I have to wait until Monday to practice the ritual again. My friend from NASS received his TWE today. He and I were A1 recipients. Does your performance at NASS impact your application?

I feel like it's the bottom of the 9th with two outs and I can't control the outcome.

A1 recipient? That's a new term for me. Can you explain what that means? Thank you.

Good luck dznavy19 with GT. We won't hear from Penn until March 31st. My fear is my DS will be denied admission there even though he has the 4 year NROTC scholarship because its an Ivy and all the applicants are well qualified. But he really loves Penn so we are opting not to try to transfer it just yet because his NROTC advisor told him he could lose his spot at Penn should they find another unit. Ugh..the pressure is mounting. Should he contact Penn ? Doesnt the unit already know about his scholarship? He is accepted at two other schools, Pitt and VA Tech... Waiting on 5 including USNA, Penn, Nova, Cornell and UVA.
