CAC Card for Contracted Cadets/Midshipmen

So true, so true. Anyone can get on post at West Point by saying, “I’m visiting the cemetery.” Now, that might not work if you were driving a box truck, but…..

USNA has the best set-up, by being so physically small. No DOD stickers, no entry by vehicle.

But agreed, delivery trucks of all types are numerous and get in all the time.

Heck, look at air shows. I am shocked that they still do them. Basically it is a free for all. Seriously, sit in line in your car and you get on base. Nobody is doing a background check on the 50K people that attend. Nobody is checking every vehicle with bomb sniffing dogs. It is just we believe, and want to support the town by having an airshow.

Want to be scared about security? There you go! Mass casualties. AF canceled their 4th of July Air show at Lakenheath because they had Intel that said opening up the base was a high risk.

I really would be shocked if they don't keep tightening up things like air shows.

WRT USNA security - a sea kayak + plus multiple secluded entry points by water from Bay or creeks = easy quiet access 24 hours, even if gates are closed to non-essential access. I try not to think about it. Water access for USN/USCGA waterside bases is a constant vulnerability.

No DOD stickers required for USNA anymore, just appropriate DOD ID or parent/sponsor pass and govt ID.

I am astounded one can get in the Pentagon on an expired ID.

Guessing right now sheriff you are really astounded to read how easy it is to get on any installation, including our SAs.
My opinion, but it was harder to get on installations years ago, pre 9/11 from an AF perspective.

Years ago, we had the DoD tag on our car windshield. Overseas we had a special pass issued to us to get on the flight line(tag was removed). Sold your car at anytime and you scraped the tag off, handed it back to the installation. They would do random 100% ID checks even with the tag. The gate guards were not contractors, they were AD.
~ You never would have even dared to try to get on with an expired ID for fear of the random ID check.
~~ Fear for the military member they would report your wife to the Commander because they confiscated her ID.

Now the guards are all contracted, or at least from what I have seen.

I will be getting a new ID next month because for 1 reason.
~ DS2 is in college and he has to go to update his own ID. They require annual proof of college enrollment after 18. Since we plan on having lunch up there, and we have to sit and wait for him, might as well get a new one for me too! Otherwise I would not be getting a new one. It is the sake of convenience. If DS2 wasn't going I wouldn't be getting a new ID. I don't use the commissary. I was forced to go to a private doctor as a retiree dependent. My doc has my tricare info. I went to the Embassy functions this years more than I went to the Pentagon. I just really have no need for the card.

I live near Tampa, Florida, relatively close to Macdill Air Force Base. Special Operations Command is headquartered there. Not too long ago they had an issue with homeless people swimming across Tampa Bay to dumpster dive/find shelter on the base. Local ROTC programs also allow cadets to go on trips there to see SOCOM, almost all of whom have "invalid" CAC's. Let all that sink in.

This really isn't the best subject to be discussing on an open, public forum, but whatever floats your boat.

It may be widely known amongst the community of security shortfalls, but we probably shouldn't help broadcast to everyone outside that community. We're not the only ones that read these sites.

Just something to think about...

I completely agree with you!
