Once at USAFA, can cadets see to which MOC their nominations were ultimately charged?
Someone said they could...

Only way I know is, if you didn't get a call from your MOC, would be to ask a recently graduated cadet currently assigned to Admissions who could peek into your file. Doesn't seem to be worth it tho...

Not sure that the MOC office would be sure either - they know who they nominated and which constituents get admitted but I'm not sure that they know the exact "charges". I know that USNA keeps it on file in Admissions and after graduation, each admission file ends up (at some point) in the Nimitz Library Special Collections. BGOs who are grads often get to check these out while at USNA for training.

"Back in the day" I know the MOC I worked with could "check and see" and would know who was "theirs." However...ANY cadet/midshipman that was from their district, had their nomination...was "theirs" and that's what they cared about.

I didn't know until I was on a TDY to USAFA after ACSC...I actually asked a friend in admissions and he looked into the archives.

Honest question: why does it matter? I am not saying that in a snarky way, I am asking to be educated. Thanks

You weren’t asking me but I’ll chime in with my $0.02.

It doesn’t. Not in the least. Just appreciate that MOC(s) bestowed a nomination and presume your appointment was charged to them. Knowing whether or not you’re one of the MOC’s five designated appointees to an SA...well, that and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee...somewhere. Learning that your appointment was ultimately charged to some faraway district and a MOC you’ve never heard of neither heightens nor cheapens the achievement. Upward and onward.

I totally agree; it doesn't matter.

I wrote a letter thanking my MOC for the nomination and said I hoped I'd be chosen and then would represent our district well.

When I was appointed, I wrote to him again and thanked him profusely (at the time I didn't know if his nomination or the Presidential one got me my appointment).

He retired.

The week before my graduation, I received a very nice handwritten and personal letter from my "former" MOC...he congratulated me on graduating and wished me well in my career.

I still have that letter.

When DD received two noms from our MOC, she sent a very sincere “thank you” note. We were very appreciative. But when he came up for re-election, we voted for his opponent, whose political views were more in line with ours.

Three years later, DS received a nom from that MOC’s successor. Last week, the MOC hosted a Zoom reception for his nominees, which featured a former member of the Joint Chiefs as the keynote speaker. It was an outstanding event, and the MOC was very gracious in his praise of the nominees. DS sent a sincere “thank you” note afterward. Of course, like his predecessor, the MOC’s political views are not aligned with ours so we won’t be voting for him when he’s up for re-election.

Ain’t America grand? 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Once at USAFA you can find this information out if you ultimately wanted to know as it's part of your file.

In the MOC portal, we can see a list of cadets at the academy from our district/state (if Senate). There is also a separate list of who was ultimately charged to our office from the bigger list. This list is most helpful in monitoring vacancies. For example, if a cadet leaves the academy prior to graduation so we know if an unexpected vacancy pops up where it came from.

The information on which cadet was charged to the MOC office isn't updated in the portal until after I-day, which means up until I-day that MOC assumed you were charged to their office if they nominated you and you received an offer of appointment. From a MOC perspective if we nominated you then you're ours whether you are charged to us or not.
