A CVW isn’t an invitation only to a person that USNA is wanting to extend an offer to. Although it could be. Nor is it something that is extended to EVERYONE that completes their application and is competitive.
A CVW is designed to expose a candidate to what life at USNA is like. As a student. To help them discern if USNA is a good fit for them. It used to be, that CVW were hard to come by. It seems to be that they are getting much more frequent.
This year, BGO’s were emailed that CVW’s are available again this year. So they are happening, and in two different formats (weekend visits, and a shortened one day visit). So a BGO can request a CVW for an applicant that needs one.
Its a significant investment, both time and money, for someone who isn’t local. I have no idea what would happen if demand for a CVW exceeded the ability to provide one, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue at this point. So if you need one to help you, inquire.
BTW….my oldest (Mid) had a visit. My youngest (Mid) did not, bc he didn’t need one. He had enough exposure through is brother.
It’s a tool to help candidates decide. You will not be evaluated (my oldest had several candidates he hosted and never evaluated them). You will not be ‘frowned upon’ if you are invited, and decline. You will not have points or any increase in your application if you attend. It’s for you, the candidate, to ‘try on’ USNA.
So, dont read anything into an invite, or not. And if you are needing a visit to help you decide, reach out to your BGO or Admissions. There will be people who attended, who are not offered an appointment. There will be hundreds of people who didn’t attend, and receive an offer of appointment.
A CVW is a tool for candidates to help them decide if USNA is where they can see themselves. If it’s for them. It’s not a tool that USNA uses to offer appointments.
Lots of threads and discussion about this every year. Drop it in the search box, and read away!!
